Knowle Farm
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This was our 3rd time at Knowle farm, although this time we took other family members including our soon to be 2 year old nephew. We stayed in Woodbine again, which was more than adequate to accommodate all 8 of us (3 of them children). Our nephew not suprisingly loved it (especially the newly built tractor/ride on area) and we were able to apportion our time between the tennis courts, swimming pool, games room, feeding the animals and going for wellie walks in the grounds. There is so much to do on Knowle farm, it is easier and far more relaxing to stay there than to go out and about. Hopefully, we will return again, but our own children are slowly getting older... By the way, we recommend the Church House Inn in Rattery. They are SO child friendly and welcoming - it would be rude not to pop in! Oh and on our son's 8th birthday, we took our boys to Dynamic Adventures in Dartington - absolutely brilliant for older children. Adults also must try the zip wire!!! Remember to say you are staying at Knowle Farm and you get a discount. Enjoy!

We stayed at Knowle Farm for the October half term with 2 adults & 4 kids ranging from 7-17. We had a brilliant time. The cottage was immaculate, comfortable, warm and cosy with every mod con, central heating and a wood burning stove (needed in October). The bedrooms were big with comfortable beds and the amenities were fantastic. The kids went out every morning to feed the range of animals on the farm with either Richard, Lynn or Daniel and loved every minute of it. Lynn, Richard and Daniel were so welcoming, friendly and kind. The swimming pool was brilliant - we had it to ourselves all but once, the kids used the games room whilst we cooked tea in the evening. We were brilliantly situated to be able to go out every day to explore Devon. All I can say is I can't recommend Knowle Farm highly enough, it was fantastic and we would definitely go again. Thanks Knowle Farm we loved our time there.

Knowle Farm was the perfect family holiday us. We have a 3 year old and 5 year old and have stayed 3 times as we love it so much. The cottages are large, fresh, well equipped and have lovely views of the location and animals. We found it very quiet and peaceful, not noticing anyone else staying there. All the animals were friendly and entertained my children for hours. The new rabbit enclosure with the race track around it was a huge hit.

The swimming pool is the perfect size for children to play and adults to do lengths. My children and husband have swimming lessons with Angela (who was recommended by the owners). My husband and daughter could not swim at all and were able to do widths within a week - what more could I ask for!

We enjoy the walk around the premises, following the rabbit trail along such beautiful countryside with woodland and rivers. The play areas are also well equipped for all ages, especially if it is a rainy day. The location is perfect for days out all around you - excellent local pub, Pennywell Farm (fantastic), Totnes only 10 mins, beaches close etc etc.

We will keep returning as we have not found anywhere with all these facilities at such a good rate. Thank you for our lovely stays.

Room Tip: We love Cow Mumble, it is very peaceful with beautiful views.

Knowle farm provided a lovely setting for an amazing family holiday. Cow mumble was well equiped with good quality items that you would be happy to use (the booster seat was spotless). This cottage had great views over the farm although the 'race track' has just been installed outside the front door and this may be noisy or perfect depending upon your requirements.
The childrens facilities made the stay extra special. Our 2 year old was thrilled with the indoor play area and the great swimming pool. Both were clean and in good condition - there were a few signs however nothing unreasonable. We hardly saw the owners but when we did they were friendly and polite. The animals were well cared for, calm around excitable toddlers and a great hit, especially Peanut the peacock who was always on the look out for a free lunch. We plan on booking again next year - can't say better than that.

Room Tip: Cow Mumble has great views but is now next to the 'race track'

Knowle Farm provided our family (two children under 3!) with a fantastic break in March 2012. The accomodation was warm, comfortable and perfect for our needs. The farm itself with its facilities (especially the indoor play area) and the ever-present animals was a lovely environment. We found the location was not a problem provided you are prepared to drive half an hour or so for a day out. Pennywell Farm is on the doorstep and is a superb attraction. We would highly recommend Knowle Farm for families.

Knowle farm delivered more than we were expecting, lovely spacious cottage with great views across the farm (stayed in cow mumble). Everything felt clean and airy, loads of equipment for the kids, booster seats, high chairs, cots, changing mats etc.

The farm animals were a great hit with the kids and we were pleased that the pond was only accessible via a gate, so felt children were very safe.

The pool was fantastic as were the games barn and the new track around the rabbit enclosure for the kids to play in. The woodland walk around the farm was lovely and just perfect length for our 3 year old and nine month old to enjoy.

The owners were very accommodating and not at all rules obsessive, unlike some other farm holidays we've been on. We would not hesitate to recommend knowle farm and would like to return again. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

Knowle Farm is a lovely place to stay. The cottages are well cared for and nicely furbished. The cottage was very clean and is well-equipped with maps, brochures and even logs for the fire. There is a booklet full of recommendations for beaches and restaurants and even some discounts for staying here. However also in this booklet is pages full of rules to follow. Although I understand the owners do not want to have to pay for repairs etc. some of them are just common sense, are quite patronising and prevent you from feeling relaxed. Shoes are banned in the buildings which is understandable but this is very annoying to have to keep to since the 'carpets' are so uncomfortable to walk on. When swimming in the pool, it is not possible to do lengths without grazing your knee on the floor. Ball games are also banned which means there is not much to do. The tennis courts seem to be forgotten about with weeds along the lines but is very grippy and does its job. The highlight has to be the animals!!! You name it, its there. With the opportunity to feed them also! If you are thinking of staying there, a car is crucial since it is in the middle of nowhere! It is down a long road and is a 5-10 min drive to Totnes. Lovely place all the same!
