This is the most amazing castle I have ever visited. I have no idea how they built it, hundreds of feet up on a mountain top, perched above jagged cliffs. We walked up from the village of Duilhac which took us slightly over an hour up to the ticket office, but from there it's another 10 or 15 minutes walk to the castle entrance. Allow at least two hours for your visit and wear good walking shoes as it's a scramble in places. Avoid wet and windy weather. By chance we were there for a falconry display which was an added bonus - it was a very good falconry display too.

We did a day trip from near Carcassonne to visit Queribus and Peyrepertuese ruins in one day. Scenic drive which even our 7 year old and 5 year old enjoyed. The ruins were a great place to clamber around with a crazy steep climb through woodland to get there. A basic level of fitness and enthusiasm is needed but it was no struggle for our excited 5 year old. Visited May 2013 (but that option no longer available on drop down list)

I recommend a trip to this castle for sure! It is a tough walk up but totally worth it. The castle is in decent shape and they are currently spending a lot of money to restore it. The castle is very interesting and even if you have no interest in that type of thing, the hike and the views make it worthwhile.

This is an amazing place to visit. After your walk/ climb to the castle you find there is another part of the castle further up. The views are spectacular. The walk up is over rough ground so make sure you have decent footwear, not fashion shoes. And plenty if water, it was very hot the day we went. Definitely a worthwhile visit.

This was absolutely amazing! A fantastic walk up to the castle, the castle itself was really interesting and there are panoramic views which take your breath away. Just as we visited a falconry display was ending (in French) and as the tame eagle was flying around for its last loop, a wild eagle of some kind flew to join it and they flew around with each other for some minutes. Incredible! This was the best thing we did on our week in Aude. There's loads of parking, loos at the bottom and a guide pamphlet that comes with the entry fee.
