I was embarrassed on Wednesday evening to take a client to this establishment only to be told there were no tables. When we spotted a table outside and asked if we could be seated there the dull unimpressed staff sighed loudly and snapped back with "I told you NO!" Taken completely aback at this attitude when we were being nothing but polite we watched the cocky manager who looked more at home trying to flog a maroon commodore at a used card yard usher another couple past us that arrived after we did. Appalling in today's hospitality industry. We spent $156 on meals that night at another restaurant nearby where every cent was better spent avoiding the Hippo Creek. Avoid at all costs.

After a few unsuccessful spontaneous attempts to secure a booking here, we actually made it for an early seated birthday dinner in January. Four of us settled with sharing garlic bread and a dish of mud huts to taste, considering the hot weather we've had and not wanting a heavy 3 course meal. These were delicious, even for those not overly fond of mushrooms.

With a taster and a few drinks under our belts we looked forward to our mains selections: a black angus rump and the Lion Kill for the boys. The chicken Assaghai and Shozaloza for us girls. I don't need to go into too much deal other than to say that the food was excellent all round, the steaks were cooked exactly as requested, the meals were tasty...as for the dollars, compared to what else is around at the moment, this place certainly gave good value for money. Would be back in a heartbeat - if we can get in!!

A party of four, started with some excellent oysters, we all had something different for main course, all the meals were really good. Too full for dessert. Very pleasant staff.

Weekend Lunch at hillarys Hippo Creek. We were taking in the views, atmosphere and a huge 400g of beef cubed on a spike hanging vertically over a bowl of chips with dripping melted butter and garlic. A big winner. The accompanying side salad was a nice touch incorporating strips of marinated red capsicum, and a light dressing. I had 3 huge aranchini balls of pumpkin and asparagus with my salad and ranch salad dressing and swapped an aranchini ball for my husbands chips covered in oozy garlic butter and he gave me one of the char grilled cubes of soft melt in the mouth beef. Delightful. Great service, what not to love.

We went with son and daughter-in-law while we were visiting them - we've been intending to go since it opened. All the food was excellent. We'd booked for 8pm and the place was buzzing - so much so we could hardly hear each other. The waitress had a similar problem, compounded by her apparent lack of familiarity with the menu. Only problem was that the dish my wife and I opted for had run out a few minutes before. Everything arrived reasonably quickly.
Fortunately within half an hour the place had started to empty and it became much more pleasant. When we left just before 10pm we were the last ones there. Moral - go later if you like it quieter (or eat outside); go earlier if you want to have a full menu choice.
