Our friends who live in Adelaide booked this as a treat for our visit to Kangaroo Island. The rooms were OK, but everything else was a big let down. We went for the wilderness walk, and came across what looked like the remains of a party with old beer and wine bottles and rubbish strewn everywhere. There was also a broken bottle in the car park. This is very unusual for Australia as everywhere else was so clean. It was cold when we were there, and after dinner the four of us would have liked to sit and play some board games or chat. However, the lovely warm lounge shuts at 7 so we had to sit on beds in our room. The food may have been nice, but it was totally coated in salt and virtually stone cold. I had to wipe the chips on my serviette to get the salt off. We had to send the food back to get it heated. I have never tasted such salty food, it made it inedible. We never saw any wildlife there, though that was not their fault! When we complained to the receptionist about the food and the rubbish she was very polite, and said the party debris was from a staff party, and that she too had complained about the salt. It is a nice setting and could be OK if it was properly run.

Serenity. We chose to stay here so we didn't have to backtrack in our travels around the island. I wished we had based ourselves here for longer! The location was lovely and so serene. A definite highlight was the food in the restaurant. Sensational! Being part of Eat Local, they really showcase Island produce at every chance... and what an incredible showcase it is! The staff were very friendly and it was evident by the laughter in the room that everyone was enjoying the atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back.

After spending time at another place we were so glad to spend our last 3 days here. Food is fantastic, the chef should be on Masterchef. Manager Fiona, nothing too much trouble. Fantastic vibe. While it is a fair way from Kingscote, you're only a hop step and jump from Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, and helicopter ride. Can't complain about anything. July 12-14 2013

We checked in on Friday June 21 for 3 days and checked the restaurant menu for meals and were not told by reception which meals were not available that night.. We decided on what we wanted. We arrived at the restaurant only to find what we wanted wasn't available. Luckily they had fish as a special and not even a local fish., otherwise i would have gone hungry as there is nowhere else to eat. I asked for a wine menu but all they had was one winery Dudley's (the savignon blanc was awful, lucky we only had a glass) so no choices same as the beers only one choice.
Even the cooked breakfast we paid for took nearly 45 minutes to arrive next morning and over 20 minutes on the day we left. We were unhappy that we had no choice as to what we wanted as we were told this is what we paid for even though it was too much too eat. The last morning they said since we didn't eat all our breakfast the day before we could choose what we wanted.
The rooms were clean and tidy and the peace and quiet was heaven but the restaurant was a let down and with the linders Chase cafe closed we had to make sure we ate before we got back there after touring around for the day.

Living in Adelaide for 3years and having regular visits from friends and family from overseas,ki is a classic destination, and so was kiwr. What a disappointment on this 4th visit in June 2013!! The room was a bit dated as always, but the bathroom door couldn't even close properly, the shower was mouldy and the whole 150dollars room had quite a mouldy smell. I remembered a warm reception room with fire, lights and comfy sofas, none of these anymore. The staff werent informative, didn't say anything about feeding wallabies (not even sure if its possible anymore!). The restaurant which used to be a highlight of my trips was absolutely terrible. We waited more than one hour for our meal, and my medium rare 36dollars steak came carbonised. Telling the waitress about it,I had a shrug as an answer. To conclude, please kiwr, train your staff, get another cook, clean and upgrade your rooms, you have one of the best location on the island, don't waste it! And if you manage to get the magic back,Il come back for a 5th time. If not,il stay on that bitter last impression.
