Spent 4 nights and wished we had the opportunity to stay longer. Great location, quiet and scenic, and not too far from the park facilities and the beach at Hanson Bay. The accommodations are rustic but very spacious and comfortable and an excellent choice for a family on Kangaroo Island. We were well prepared with supplies purchased ahead of time, and the visitor center and cafe in the national park were even better than expected. Even during the busy Christmas season, this location is quiet since most visitors are there only during the day. It's a long drive to/from the other end of Kangaroo Island, so if you're doing a variety of activities on the island you may want some time at this end and more time at the other end. Overall, for wildlife (wallabies, kangaroos, fur seals), secluded beaches, and scenery, this place is the best on KI!

Dear Mike T,

We’re pleased that your family was so comfortable in Karatta Lodge and that you enjoyed the quiet seclusion and magnificent coastal scenery at Cape du Couedic! Having plenty of time and more than one accommodation location is certainly good advice for visitors wanting to see as much as possible of Kangaroo Island. In addition to Cape du Couedic, we offer accommodation in three other equally stunning locations – Cape Willoughby on the eastern end of Kangaroo Island, Cape Borda on the north west coast and Rocky River in the heart of Flinders Chase National Park. We also offer a complimentary KI Tour Pass for guests staying for five or more nights. We hope you’ll be able to stay longer and see even more on your next trip to Kangaroo Island!

Dear michael p

Witnessing the birth of a New Zealand Fur Seal would certainly be a holiday experience to remember! We’re pleased that you were so comfortable in the lighthouse keeper’s cottage at Cape du Couedic and delighted that you intend to return. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We returned after 15 years to stay at Cape du Coedic and it was just as magical as we remembered from our first trip , with our then 2 year old daughter, right down to the wallabies hopping across the backyard, relatives of the previous ones? This time with our 17 yr old daughter nd 12 yr old son who both enjoyed the beautiful spacious home, peace the NZ fur seals and wonderful "Remarkable Rocks" . Staying more than 5 nights and having the opportunity to use the island pass and check out the Cape Borda lighthouse, great tour, and Kelly Hill caves and the Seal bay tour was a real bonus. I love the fact that there is no TV, or phone cover, kids enjoyed it too. Thanks for keeping these open , we won't wait 15 yrs to visit again.

Dear Jan M O O

Yes, Cape du Couedic is something of a time warp! We’re so pleased that you were able to rediscover the magic you enjoyed on your previous visit to Cape du Couedic and that you were able to extend your stay to include May’s Homestead at Rocky River and the lighthouse keeper’s cottages at Cape Willoughby and discover the special character of each. We look forward to welcoming you back to Cape du Couedic on your next visit to Kangaroo Island!

We loved our four nights in this wonderful place. The location was amazing, the cottage was well-equipped with spacious rooms and absolutely spotless. Full marks to those who look after these treasures! The close proximity of some of KI's best scenery was a bonus. The isolation made the experience seem more authentic and it was hard to drag ourselves back to reality. We made sure that we had plenty of provisions for dinners and ate our lunches at the park office cafe, which is excellent for daytime meals.

Room Tip: The wind will put you to sleep.

Dear GaelBGeelong

Cape du Couedic is the perfect escape! So it’s easy to understand why guests who have spent a few days staying in the comfort of the lighthouse keeper’s cottages and enjoying the magnificent scenery are reluctant to return to the “real” world. Thank you for your glowing review and your kind comments on the presentation of the cottages – we will pass on your compliments to our dedicated staff!

After spending three days on the north side of KI, at Emu Bay, we travelled right across the island to the wild southwest to stay three nights in Parndana Lodge. The wonderful stone lighthouse-keeper's house, with high ceilings, and tall windows, is comfortably furnished and well equipped. The sense of living where the early families survived an isolated existence is very real. Walking where they walked, to Weir's Cove, Admiral's Arch, and of course the lighthouse, seeing the sunset as they did, watching the wallabies at dawn and dusk, cooking dinner in the wood fire stove, their presence is very companionable. Wherever you go outdoors, hundreds of flies will go with you, so keep both hands free to shoo them off, or invest in a fly veil.

Dear LesleyR999

We are delighted to hear that immersing yourself in the history of Cape du Couedic and enjoying the magnificent scenery proved to be the highlight of your holiday on Kangaroo Island! As you have found, the cottages at Cape du Couedic exude a tangible sense of history and yet the modern amenities allow guests to share the experience of the early lighthouse keepers without the hardship. We’re pleased that you enjoyed your wildlife encounters – except for the flies of course! Luckily flies are not often a problem at Cape du Couedic but I’m sure other visitors will appreciate your advice – just in case! Thank you for taking the time to send such a positive review!

We stayed in the Parndana Cottage for 3 nights. What a wonderfully comfortable and interesting place to stay. We loved the isolation and peacefulness. It was great to be able to walk to the Lighthouse and to the fur seals. The Remarkable Rocks and Weirs Cove is a short 10 minute drive away. The weather was windy and cold whilst we stayed at the cottage, but with the lovely thick stone walls, it was very warm and comfortable inside.

We loved that the cottage had kept the flavour of a historic cottage, and not modernised. It added to the character and feeling of the place. We did not want for anything. It is recommended that you plan to cater for yourselves at the cottage, particularly for dinners, as the closest restaurant is 30 minutes drive away. There is a good cafe in the NP, but is only open from 10am-5pm.

Dear cherrybrookchick,

Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed your stay at Parndana Lodge! The heritage listed stone cottages at Cape du Couedic were built to withstand the weather for the benefit of the early lighthouse keepers and now offer the same reassuring comfort to guests. As you have found, guests staying overnight at Cape du Couedic often have the privilege of enjoying the spectacular coastal scenery and wildlife in splendid isolation, long after the crowds have gone - we're glad you enjoyed this very special experience!

The cottages are close to the lighthouse, and you can see it from most windows. Cape de Couedic is at the far western end of KI: you are advised to get there with plenty of petrol in the tank, as petrol is not available in the National Park.
We stayed at the Parndana lodge: three room, a living room and a kitchen with all amenities. the bathroom is a bit rough, but usable, and hot water is always working.
This lighthouse is sitting almost on top of Admiral arch, where a big group of seals has made his home, and within walking distance of the Remarkable Rocks (about 6 km).
The lodge is very well equipped, you do not need to bring anything with you: but if you want breakfast in the morning, or any other meal during the day, do not forget to take it with you.
all in all a memorable experience.

Room Tip: The three cottages are pretty much similar

Dear giorgiosydney,

We’re pleased to hear that your stay in Parndana Lodge was such a memorable experience! The location of the Cape du Couedic lighthouse keeper’s cottages set amidst coastal grandeur, adjacent to the lighthouse and within easy walking distance of the New Zealand fur seal colony at Admiral’s Arch, is certainly unsurpassed. The cottages have been renovated in keeping with their heritage listing but if there is any amenity that has been overlooked in the bathroom please let us know - we welcome guest recommendations for improvements! Your recommendation to ensure adequate fuel and food supplies is sound advice for future guests – thank you!
