We booked this venue for a weekend break/family reunion in July 2013. We live in NZ and had to do everything over the internet, which was made easy with good correspondence by emails. Venue was closer to the road than I imagined but the place easily accommodated 28 of us. The weather was great so we spent most of the time outdoors and in the pool. The bedrooms varied in size but we managed to suit everybody. We needed to use some of the "put u up" beds but frankly the mattresses were a bit thin for adults. Cooking was a challenge (we cooked sunday lunch for 28) and had to utilise the ovens on the first and second floors, so lots of running up and down stairs to check on progress. A larger oven/double oven on ground floor would have been useful. Glad we didn't have to spend too much time indoors, décor is a bit shabby and in need of a makeover. Overall we had a great time and we have some lovely memories to take back to NZ.

We have just returned from October half term holiday here. There were 8 adults and 9 children under 5 years and we all had a brilliant time. House was huge and the children loved the freedom. Everything was clean and we had lovely, comfy beds. It all really exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend.

Booked this place in June 2012 for a 20 person stag party and had a great time. The Hall is a little worn in places but it still looks fantastic and was everything it said it would be on the website. One of the only places in the Bristol area that would accept stag parties for 20+ people, booking was easy and Lucy was very helpful answering any queries we had.
Only real gripe was on arrival the person dealing with our party was late and didn't turn up until 1.5hrs after we had agreed, however they were more than happy to allow us entry to the Hall before they arrived to get ourselves settled in and everything was pretty self explanatory so it wasn't a big issue.
The Hall is in a great location for both Bristol and Bath nightlife and is well known so had no problems getting taxi's back from both.
Enough beds were provided to sleep all 20 seperately and all linen was clean and provided.
There was both a pool table and table tennis however the bats and cue's had seen better days, the pool cue's especially so would advice to bring your own if you have them.
Overall the Hall is a great place for all parties wherether it a stag/henm or friends and family to gather and would recommend the use to anyone

We were a large group staying in the house in the summer.
The booking process was very good, any questions were answered prompty and we were met on arrival and shown round.
The house is huge and very quirky, some bedrooms are very big, others quite small, so they took a bit of sharing out. The kids loved the space, both inside and out
The dining room is a great size for a big group dinner, although the table was actually several tables put together. The furniture in general is a bit tired but good enough for our purposes - we weren't expecting luxury.
The kitchen is big - light and airy, and good for eating in. The cooking facilities are very limited when trying to cook for 12, but we got by.
The table tennis table got a lot of use (it rained a lot while we were there).
We didn't use the swimming pool (see 'rained a lot') - it looked OK for a quick splash
In summary -
lots of space
good location - both the grounds and things to do nearby
furniture could be better, as could the decor and general maintenance
kids loved it
very good value
booking and pre-arrival service were excellent

We were two couples looking for a Country House Hotel type accommodation for 4 days touring West Country. We book CH in February and paid our 75% the remainder in cash on arrival.

We were alone in the big old rectory which was nice. Plenty and I mean plenty of room to get lost! We were just fine but a few pointers:

1 - We understood we had to bring towels which was easy in a car.
2 - Swimming Pool has a pile of rotted leaves at the bottom (web site offers a swim) unusable
3 - Lounge is tired, bit like a hostel lounge, but comfortable if a bit musty. Good TV for Olympics
4 - We cooked nothing as we ate out at three very good local pubs each evening. Kitchen fully equipped and clean.
5 - Foxglove bedroom is comfortable BUT we could not open window as DG stuck or something and we had only two pillow covers so extra pillows wrapped in towels.
6 - Please label cold taps if "drinking" or "non drinking water".

We enjoyed sitting in grounds at garden tables but We should have bought deck chairs!

We were happy, our Canadian relations with us now think all the English live in Eccentric Victorian Manor Houses

If you are a big group you will be well served as the dining room seats 24!

It's not "luxury" but at the price it's just what you want, comfortable and no standing on ceremony.

There were 23 of us staying there for 2 nights for a stag party. We spent the first night having a house party and the next night out in Bath, so did spend a bit of time in the Hall itself.

There is a pool table that is in good condition, and the person who met us when we arrived noted there were no pool cues, so went out and bought a new one for us! The sound system worked well, and we were able to plug in our own iPods etc and turn the tunes right up. There were three fridges in the Hall, all of them worked well (and we did fill all of them), and we found the house in good general working order.

If I had to be critical, I would say that the decor is something that other reviewers have pointed out, and it did feel a bit tired. But for our stag party, it wasn't a problem. The oven in the kitchen was temperamental as well, but as we had external caterers coming in, it was something they noted rather than anything that directly affected us. Also, we had a few problems with hot water in some of the showers, and found out that there are 3 separate water heating systems for the various bathrooms, so some of us had hot water and others didn't. We just used the ones with hot water so no real problem for us. No idea if it was because we didn't turn something on or something was broken.

The pool was open and available, and aside from a few leaves in it, looks to be in good condition. It is more of a splash pool though so don't expect to be able to swim lengths in it. We didn't get to use it though, but made a point of checking it out following some other reviews.

The rooms were varied in sizes. Three of the rooms are huge, and have en-suite bathrooms. And some of the rooms are quite small and one has a bunk bed in it, so bear that in mind if you plan to fill the hall with people... get there first and bag one of the big rooms!

In summary, it was perfect for our needs as a stag venue. Was private, convenient location to Bath and Bristol although the taxi's to and from can be costly. Although the decor was tired, we didn't need marble and tapestries for a stag party, so again, served it's purpose for us. Everything was clean, and the staff we met were friendly and helpful. And the views from the Hall were a very impressive backdrop for the party.

We used www.tumangetout.com as our caterers who did an excellent barbeque and a couple of fried breakfasts over the course of the weekend. Would recommend them as they were very friendly, the food was good and they have worked at the Hall several times before.

Room Tip: Any of the three rooms at the front of the house, as they are the largest and all have en-suite. Som...
