“Great accommodation”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

Fantastic last minute arrangements following recommendation from a friend. Very accommodating when plans changed at last minute. Room was great, very comfy bed, beamed ceiling, large flat screen tv, complimentary toiletries and tea/coffee. Room was on ground floor and door direct to outside. Will be staying here when in area again - thank you

Can't believe what a great value this place was. The room was spacious, no, make that massive, very clean and tidy, comfy bed, lovely shower, quiet and peaceful. The free wifi is quite speedy. The host was friendly and helpful, providing a booklet on the sights of Knowle. There is a lovely Carvery almost next door with a great menu and low prices.
I have stayed in places no where near as good for 4 times the price. A perfect place if you are off on an early flight from Birmingham airport as its just under 4 miles away. Knowle is an interesting village with lots ancient architecture including a 13th century church.
I will definitely be back.

Room Tip: If room 3 is available take it - it was very big.

Stayed here for the first time for 2 nights when visiting the gadget show at Birmingham NEC at the weekend. Friendly owner Mary gave us a choice of large doubles upstairs and was very welcoming with instant info on the village and places to eat. Knowel is an excellent location for the NEC as it took 10mims to drive there from Achill guest house. The guest house is also a 2minute walk from the village main road with several good pubs and over 14 restaurants. Breakfast was £5 including a full cooked option with fresh tea coffee toast and oj (worth noting the toby carvery next door charges extra for toast and drinks on top of their £3.99 breakfast.)A booking tip if you go to the b&b website all call direct you'll get better room rates and availability than on late rooms website. In all a good honest b&b.

Just returned from 5 nights at the Achill. I understand they are updating the guest house but our room was shabby and grubby. Mary is a lovely lady and the breakfast was great and very good value but our room needed a good clean. The only very small bin in our room was still full of previous occupants rubbish. It was only emptied twice in 5 nights and the room was only cleaned/serviced twice during our stay. The bathroom and shower was grubby and it was hard to keep water from going all over the bathroom floor using the small showerscreen. It is very well positioned close to Knowle centre and good parking. Even the information folder in the room needed a wipe as did the menus in the breakfast room which had food splashes on them. She is a very nice person but ..

Spent one night at Achill (still dont know how to pronounce it!) I ended up with a family room due to me booking late and availability, bigger than I needed but no complaints. The room was clean and in good order, warm, with comfy beds.
The full English breakfast was superb and considering you can also have cereal and toast & Jam with as much tea as you want I thought it very good value for a fiver.
Lovely chatty friendly couple running the place who cant do enough for you. The village of Knowle has plenty of eating establishments and these are listed in the guide which is in the room.Forget the big anonymous chain hotels folks, put the money in the pockets of this small business who have the personal touch and treat you as if they know you.

Room Tip: State your needs when booking and the owners will do their best to accommodate you

Just spent a lovely weekend at Achill Gaust House with my husband,it was our 4th visit over the last 4 years. The owners have been updating the house since our last visit and there is a lovely new porch area where you can sit and wait for a taxi or just chat with fellow gausts. We stayed in room 5 at the front of the house it had a huge comfortable king size bed. The bathroom was a good size with an electric shower over the bath. Mary the owner showed us to the room talked about the area and gave us lots of good advice and also explained that the village was only a 5 min walk away with a choice 15 places to eat. We ate in the Indian called Alora it was a good price and nice food. Breakfast in the morning was very good and only £5 extra very good value and nicely cooked by Marys Husband and co owner Lez. We where so stuffed that we didnt need any lunch. The thing we enjoy most about staying at Achill House is the warm welcome the relaxed felling of being no trouble and in fact felling like you are one of the family. We hope to return soon to the lovely village of Knowle we wouldnt stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the garden and Dovecote
