Surprised by the bad reviews here... I've stayed twice now, once in 2009 and again 2013, both times arriving on motorbike. And I would definitely stay again. There's not much to do in the town itself but when you have a great hotel to hang about in that doesn't matter. The rooms are huge and very comfortable, the staff I thought were terrific. When we arrived and the receptionist saw we were on a motorbike told us where to put the bike so the night porter could keep and eye on it. She was a biker herself and was showing is pictures of her own bike. Really nice welcome and very friendly staff with the very warm and laidback manner. Great stay and look forward to the next time.

We stayed for one night on Sat 19 oct. Arriving there we thought it was a fantastic place, but this was just a first impression. Nobody a the reception desk (kept as waiting for 10 mini). We were upgraded into the honeymoon suite (bruilloft suite). Very nice room, but impossible to sleep as there a wedding party going on just beneath (heavy disco noise in the room till 3 in the morning).
In the restaurant, we almost had to fight with the waiter to get a table ("if no reservation, will be difficult").
The choice of dishes in the menu was very limited, as most things were sold out!! (Carpaccio, beefsteak, chicken!)
Very unprofessional service in the restaurant, probably due to untrained, non professionals helping out in the week-end.
Food quality was more than average and certainly not up to the high belgian gastronomic cuisine level for 4 star hotel.
The breakfast was supposed to start at 7.30 in the morning, but at our arrival, only one third was exposed. Very very average breakfast - tons of bread, poor choice, no bacon or sausages for the eggs, no toaster, only canned juice, lots of ready baked pastries.
At the check-out, I complained about the noise in our room and the lady said "But your honey moon suite is one of the most quiet rooms in the house - sarcastic.
No apology, no thank you for staying, no good bye
We paid 206 Euro for a one night stay with a poor meal in restaurant.
Never again!!

.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room far away from the dance floor on weekend

Thank you staff at godshuis, from the front desk to the brasserie to the spa staff, everyone was really nice. The food in Antonias brasserie was excellent, although I would recommend choosing from the a la carte manu and not the set menu if you can. Appetisers were ok, some times seemed like they had been sitting out for a while, really good steak.

We were on a romantic weekend. The weather was exceptionally hot (above 30°C). As we checked in (15h30), the girl at the desk told us about a major electricity failure during the whole morning. As a result of that, some of the rooms had no airconditionning. And yes, we were one of those unfortunated customers. We were forced to open the window to lower the temperature a bit (but not much), and therefore grant free access to the mosquitoes in the room. The room was a duplex: sitting corner and a desk on the lower level and on the upper level the bedroom and bathroom. Verry nicely arranged. But so hot! We cold'nt sleep up there.
At the reception they didn't bother to have any kind of solution to offer, such as some extra chilled water and/or sparkling water to preserve in the minibar. Nada, nothing... We were happy to check out from this hotel.
We have also some things to say about the restaurant there. Our conclusion is siple: stay away from there! If you want to know more about this restaurant, read my review of the "Antonia's Brasserie" on thes site.
If you're lokking for a better stay in the region, certainly check the Cleythil Hotel. I'll write a review for this one too.

Room Tip: Claim a room with A WORKING airconditionning system. They have some. If it's warm outside, you...

There is no doubt that the building and the rooms are great, but the service is absolutely horrible. I travel to this hotel quite often for business in the region (there are no other hotel options). Every time when we want some food from the restaurant or a drink at the bar, we have to go find the staff. There is never no one to be found. And when you finally get a drink enjoy it, because for your next drink you will have to go find them all over again. When you have questions about the wifi or just about anything, no one has an answer for you. They go find someone who is supposed to know and that's the last you hear from them. Great building and rooms, but no hospitality what so ever (based on 4 visits now).

Room Tip: when you are standing in front of the front desk (face towards the counter), make sure you get a roo...

Stayed in this hotel for two days for a company meeting.

Great room: they are all quite different. Our's was quite big, we a wonderfull bed, nice bathroom. Liked the combination between the older parts of the building (brikstone wall) and classical/modern design (good quality)

Food: had one dinner, and two lunches here. Very good quality: fresh and good tastes. a very positive surprise. Breakfast in the cellar was OK, but not more than that.

The building: nice historical building

Meeting rooms: wonderful, especially the big ones with large windows. Felt like sitting outside.

Staff: very friendly, always smiling, professional

Negative? nothing, for my stay. However, we had a big party until 4 o'clock in the morning. So I can only imagine staying here on for example a romantic getaway, with like a wedding or another party going on, it's a disaster to stay here. Of course in my case that did not bother me. I had a wonderful stay.
