On arrival at the correct time (just after 17:00pm) we arrived at the Red Lion. It was all locked up, with the blackboard signs inside behind the glass doors, looking very deserted. I was unsure at first what to do, but I then noticed the doorbell. The landlord took a few minutes to come to the door, which left me with the feeling that I might have got the wrong day!

The brewery/owner of the pub is selling this property, but I feel it would be far better off investing some money to up-date it. If it had some TLC it could be an attractive place and people would be more inclined to stop-off. Unfortunately it is needing some life injected into it.

On the plus side, our room was immaculately clean, the sheets crisp and white. The bathroom also couldn't have been cleaner. The view from the window was beautiful, and it had lovely old sash-windows (which would look even more attractive if the brewery decided to paint them!)

We decided to not eat at the pub, and to go into Sidmouth for the evening - the pub didn't officially open until 7:00pm on a Saturday. We had our dog with us, and she was very welcome and we felt comfortable with her being there.

Next morning the Landlady had set up a breakfast table for us in the bar because we had the dog. The breakfast was very tasty and very well-cooked.

Our second enjoyable stay here. The King room was comfortable, food was good and the Otter ale was a pleasure to drink. What a pity that so few of the villagers patronise their only pub - they will regret it when the brewery finally closes it down.

Room Tip: pay the extra for the King room

We booked this B&B on the off chance and we were delighted with the place. The landlord was very accommodating and he couldn’t do enough for us. Great beer and the food was excellent. I would go again.

Stayed in Sidbury for 3 nights and as this is the only pub in the village we went in. We were the only ones in there and the landlord looked very down, beer was good. People of Sidbury use this pub or lose it, you have been warned.

We were looking for 2 nights accomodation close to Honiton an Sidmouth and found this PUB/BED AND BREAKFAST.Oficially we could not check in until the pub opened at 6pm.After a phone call the manager was quite happy to let us in mid afternoon.
We were dubious when we arrived but warmed to the place and the mlandlord. The room was clean and comfortable although a little basic. We were made welcome in the bars downstairs and the breakfast was good.
Did not have an evening meal here as it turned out that the landlady was ill.A couple of the "locals" did say however that the food was very good.
Yes we would use the RedLion again.
NOTE-Very thin bedroom walls!!
