Montresor was absolutely amazing. Our Gite was comfortable, great amenities and we walked for hours up and down the amazing streets. We would arrive at the Bakery and use are limited Canadian Junior High School french to buy bread, or shop at the Grocers. People in this village had never met a Canadian so we were celebrities. This jewel in the Loire Valley is an attraction of itself.

The Chateau was not as beautiful as many we visited, however the story and the artifacts were interesting. There was an early "pumping station" in the river to provide water to the Chateau. The village built around the Chateau provided work, and artisans. All in all this was an amazing place, and central for visiting the Chateaux of the Loire Valley.

Very enjoyable visit. Reception extremely helpful and excellent English spoken. Also really handy printed guide with ALL the required info contained. Details of furniture and paintings. The most thorough printed guide I've seen. Not over whelmed by the size of this chateau took a good 3 hours to go round it. Felt as though we were visiting a friend as nothing was cordoned off, and was possible to walk around each room between items of furniture. Pleasant gardens. Really friendly lived in place. Def worth a visit. Checkout the local church nearby.

Having read guide books which state that the village of Montresor is a medieval jewel and well worth a visit, I was disappointed. Probably because we had stayed in Chinon which is packed with medieval houses. Montresor has one very small street. The Chateau was OK, it was small and clearly still a family home. THere were lots of stuffed animals and hunting paraphenlia. It was just OK, I had expected it to be better.

Visited this small chateau on one of our day trips around the area. Being one of the lesser attractions it was very accessible and we spent a pleasant couple of hours wandering through the building and around the gardens. Its a little tired like many of the smaller chateau but has that nice lived in feel - the descendants of the Polish count that took over the place a couple of hundred years ago still live in part of the chateau. The view across the town from the keep is good. Worth the visit if in the area.

Interesting little chateau, with many artifacts and many, many results of the local hunt! Still owned by the family who bought it in 1848, this would also be a very good visit for warmer weather as the chateau overlooks a river with pleasant walks.
