Travelled over from Cornwall for a surprise birthday dinner and the food was, as my girlfriend likes to say, "To die for"! The brie soup was plentiful and piping hot, the steak was succulent and we shared a moist sticky toffee pudding. It was all delicious and excellent value for money.

it was a shame that the customer service didn't match the fare. We were ushered swiftly into the dining room, no-one offered to take our wet coats, we weren't told that the fish pie was off the menu until we had ordered it and although not unpleasant, there was no attempt to engage us as guests. Although the staff didn't know we had travelled over a hundred miles to be there on a cold, extremely damp January Saturday night, there was no attempt to find out.

I would certainly recommend this gastro pub for the quality of its food but I hope that next time we would be made to feel a little more welcome.

We have visited this country pub a few times and always had really good food and the menu is quite creative. There is a good selection of wines and the belly pork, crackling and bubble and squeak is out of the top drawer. Their home-made steak pies are also good.

We go here frequently and have never been disappointed. It is often busy, frequently with families or groups, so it is worth being flexible about timing. The fish is local and fresh and always excellent. Their chips are outstanding!

Really lovely Sunday lunch - well cooked, good quality, plenty of it, good service, & reasonable value for money.

One tiny nagative - Pretty much everything was presented on either a bread board or a bit of slate... Whats wrong with a plate? Would be so much easier to eat off a plate and not chase your food around something that is completly flat, looks nice but a pain.

As I've said the above is only a really tiny issue and the only negative comment I can make about this restaurant, It is really good all round and we would definately go back.

There are not that many places in this part of Devon that are open all day. The great thing about the Wheelwright is that you can get good food all day, everyday. The kids menu is great and they really welcome families. Grown up food is also good and being a pub there is a great selection of drinks. The service is good. You can also get the tram to this pub, which makes a nice day out!
