Travelled over from Cornwall for a surprise birthday dinner and the food was, as my girlfriend likes to say, "To die for"! The brie soup was plentiful and piping hot, the steak was succulent and we shared a moist sticky toffee pudding. It was all delicious and excellent value for money.
it was a shame that the customer service didn't match the fare. We were ushered swiftly into the dining room, no-one offered to take our wet coats, we weren't told that the fish pie was off the menu until we had ordered it and although not unpleasant, there was no attempt to engage us as guests. Although the staff didn't know we had travelled over a hundred miles to be there on a cold, extremely damp January Saturday night, there was no attempt to find out.
I would certainly recommend this gastro pub for the quality of its food but I hope that next time we would be made to feel a little more welcome.
