Anh Nguyet Hotel
Ranked #1 of 9 Ca Mau B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 1, 2012

This hotel survives by hosting weddings, sometimes 3 a day. This means noise....a lot of noise from noon to about 9 p.m. The hotel business seems to be ancillary: at least the TVs have recently been upgraded to flat screen. The breakfast is a buffet and below average. I would suggest you go down to the road, turn left and eat at the first restaurant (Truong Khang) where they serve a delicious fish porridge soup in the morning (Chao Ca), number 3 or 4 on the menu.

The hotel charges separate rates for foreigners and locals (half price). It has a fly problem in the dining and lobby area. The management are sticklers for wanting to keep your passport. They claim it is for reporting to the police but maybe also to prevent guests running away without paying. The staff themselves are mostly friendly and helpful. Laundry is same day. The main problem is that there is not much competition in Ca Mau for this hotel to need to upgrade and improve their services.

This is a pretty basic, get-what-you-pay-for, 3-star experience at USD$35 per night. You can see from the photos that my room (#204) was a little dated and tacky, but certainly not offensive. My colleagues told me I got the “nice” room…

Despite being a smoking room, the smell wasn’t that bad… overpowering air-freshener, but I’m extremely sensitive to cigarette smoke and I wouldn’t complain about the air in my room.

Good air-con, firm double-bed, sparse mini-bar and two free bottles of water – no ironing board & iron. TV looked big and new, but didn’t try. A quirky feature of the bathroom is the waterfall that travels down the side of the bath to create a hazardous ocean on the bathroom floor! I had to mop it up with the bathmat, towel and hand-towel, and there were still litres of water on the floor!

Best of all… free wireless internet in the room… better than the 5-star hotel I just came from in HCMC! Check-in and check-out was quick and efficient. Breakfast was pretty good for a 3-star offering.

I would give this place 3-stars automatically, however the shower had absolutely no hot water during both evening and morning showers… I had to splash warm water from the basin to have a shower. Even 3-star hotels should have hot water in the shower… for that reason; I’m giving 2-stars.

Its Ok ..I was unsure what to expect when you are so far south in Vietnam in Ca Mau.
The rooms were clean and tidy, the air conditioning could have been better.

If your are on your own and wanting to eat the hotel is very limited, Although Ca Mou did not see a lot of Westerners, I found a few eating places close by, the food was very good, although not to sure what I ordered.

The hotel has internet connection at reception, the staff are very helpful when you want to use the internet, and can understand English.

On business, it was acceptable as I could communicate back home, and the hotel had a friendly feeling to it.

Breakfast was traditional, but had the options of omelettes, as I was unsure of the local food.

The hotel is old old old.while the service staff are pretty good (and the front desk can speak some english), the rooms are old old old and the carpet probably hasn't been changed in the hotel's existence. Various parts of the toilet did not work (eg taps dont turn right, stopper doesnt work well, no hot only lukewarm water). One redeeming feature was the 50" flat panel tv, but I won't be coming back. Oh, and the 'spa' on the 4th floor seems awfully popular with the local men. There are at least 9 other hotels in Ca Mau thanks to the seafood industry boom in recent years, so just try ANY other hotel - at the least they will have newer carpet. Just google "Hotels in Ca Mau City". There's even a spanking new one across the road "Ca Mau Hotel" I think. I'm going to stay there next time.

We receiveda a free shuttle from tha Ca Mau aiport to the hotel. The staff were friendly.

The room is just dirt and old. We had to ask for extra linens and there are some cachcroaches in the room. The air-con took a while to work and the bed was uncomfortable.

There was a "massage" room in the same floor, but the layout seem dubious.

Breakfast was average. Most of the food seemed to be leftovers from the night before.

Unfortunately this is one of the better hotels in Ca Mau. There is not many hotels to choose from.

I stayed at this hotel for 10 days in October and another 8 days in November 2009. I live in Australia, but am American, and knew nothing of Ca Mau when I arrived. I quickly learned that it was one of only 3 hotels in Ca Mau to consider when striving for hotel standards more like USA. The hotel has a 3 star rating by the Vietnamese government, but realistically it is more a 2 star. (The "other two" are 2 star.) My co-workers informed the "other two" hotels are about the same, or lower in quality. (Ca Mau is not a tourist area, so you won't find any posh place to stay in this town! The hotel is 10 minutes from the Ca Mau airport, and they provide free shuttle to/from airport. The hotel is walking distance from the town center and the interesting markets. There is an ATM machine across street, so getting cash is easy. The free breakfast buffet is adequate (included in room rate), mostly Vietnames food, but enough "western" choices to satisfy my American tastes (eggs, toast, orange drink, bacon). The staff was great, and spoke enough English to help me arrange taxis, plan sight seeing, and faithfully cleaned my laundry each day (included in room rate). They have wireless and plug in internet that worked well. The air conditioning is fine. Using Skype to call home worked great. There are frequent afternoon and evening weddings in the hotel banquet rooms, so expect some noisy afternoons and evenings, but everything is quiet by 10pm. If you are traveling to Ca Mau and need an easy to find, safe, relatively clean place to stay, this will work well for you! Just remember it is not a tourist area, so adjust your expectations.
