We went to Treorchy last night to see Eric Bibb perform. The show started at 8pm so we arrived about 6.30pm to look for something to eat first, no idea what we would find, but we were open for anything. We asked a passer by if there was an Indian Restaurant nearby but she told us there was a Thai restaurant, that'll do nicely! When we arrived there was one large table who seemed to be coming to the end of their meal, another group of 5 girls just giving their order but that was about it. We were immediately acknowledged and given a table and reassured that someone would take our order soon. To be fair we had given our order by 6.45pm, we didn't over do it: a mixed platter to share to start and 2 main meals and two portions of rice I also pointed out that we were going to see the show across the road at 8pm and we were told that it shouldn't be a problem, The platter arrived within 10 minutes and very nice it was too.
In the meantime, more people arrived who were clearly locals/regulars as they knew others already there. Time ticked by and every now and again the (one and only) waiter would come over and look at the empty table as if he was surprised to see no food and apologised for the delay and asked if we would like more drinks, my husband asked for another half pint of beer but he was given a full pint and told that it was on the house. The food didn't actually arrive until 7.45, about an hour after we had ordered it which I had pointed out earlier at the same time as my husband pointed out that people who had arrived after us had been served before us.
To be fair the food was really nice and clearly it was freshly cooked, although I thought that there was too much potato in my Chicken Masamam. The waiter seemed to be working hard running around trying to keep everyone happy and was very apologetic and did mutter something about being short staffed, not allowing for the show and that other tables had pre-ordered. If that facility is available, that's fine but we should have been warned that this could cause a delay in us being served.
We are pretty laid back about service time normally and prefer to wait than be rushed and I would recommend it but not if you need to go somewhere else.
We did miss the first 10 minutes of the support act but Eric Bibb was excellent!
