Owner description: "la Maison de la Dame" is an exhibition space created in 2002 in order to highlight the prehistoric remains found in "la Grotte du Pape": lithic industry, animal bones and art objects showing an important human occupation thoughout all the Upper Paleolithic (-36.000/-10.000 years). among all of those artefacts are presented somme copies of the most beautiful Venus from European Paleolithic including "la Dame à la Capuche". Discovered here in 1894, this sculpture in mammoth ivory is the oldest reprsentation of human face known in the world (25.000 years old). Next to the museum, uhe "ArcheoParc" will show you all the technics of prehistoric times : flint knapping, hunting, build a fire...
