“Small & rustic”
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here after a wedding. The price was much better than the almost $300 Morongo hotel. The rooms are quite rustic, very basic, but it served its purpose. No TV, bed too soft, but did have AC that kicked butt. If you need a nice quiet place to stay for not a lot of money, this is your place.

If you are looking for a weekend escape back into the time of simple days in the countryside, this is a good choice. The accommodations are adequate with good beds and bathroom facilities. It is an old, working ranch that reminded us of our childhood summer camp days. Everything is rustic. We went up for the Lavender Festival and spent the night. The restaurant food is good, but expensive. The service is as lazy as the lazy days, so do not expect to race through drinks and dinner. This was perfect for enjoying the evening smells of lavender and sounds of crickets. A perfect way to forget the hustle of city life.

We only stayed at the resort for a wedding. The rooms had ants and were in very bad shape. The bath tub coating was peeling. The bathroom fixtures were very worn and dated. The sprinkler system sprayed water against our room window from 1am to 2am. The walls on one side of the room were so thin it sounded like the other guests were in the same room. This was highly disappointing, as we traveled cross country for a wedding and the accommodations took the focus away from a blessed event.

This place is very rustic. We stay in a room that was built in 1921. If you like the country you'll like this place. The room I wish would of been more cheery. Better curtains and some flowers. The bluefly picture on wall was nice. I suggest getting a upgrade room if your looking for more modern.

The Restuant was great a little pricey but the steak, spinach fruit salads, service was great great great!. The histroy about the place from all the famous actors visting there from Bob hope, Elizathbeth tayor.Wytt Earp and Albert Einstein. You should come to see the pictures on the wall of the Restuant.

The farm is wonderful a 1100.00 year old oaktree it's huge and beauiful. The sheep, the olivetrees. We will be back for the Lavender Festival in June. We went on a nice hike. If you love the country you'll like this place.

Room Tip: Would reccomend a more modern room or request a cottage.

We decided at last minute to try the Grand Oak at the Highland Springs resort for Sunday Brunch and as on other occasions the menu choices although limited are just excellent, the chef Stefan Weck is a German kitchen genius. We ordered for the Main (Entree) the Newport Lamb Navarin and the Grand Oak Burger, both superb and the Apple Pear Crisp with Vanilla Sauce for Sweet (Dessert) was to die for, although a little small for sharing. The lack of any sweetener for the excellent coffee on offer, only organically grown sugar seems taking the "natural" element a little to far and disingenuous to ones who cannot use sugar. It is very good to offer "natural' ingredients, but one needs to avoid becoming a fanatic of the organic lifestyle.
That said regarding the food, the service is good, our server Lisa was very nice and helpful, however the restaurant although refurbished to some of its former glory lacks any sense of warmth and is just not welcoming. The location in the hills above Beaumont is beautiful in its rural setting, but the outside has just not been allowed indoors, and as a result the ambiance is cold and stark. With the original wood floors and impressive architectural features this could be a stunning restaurant. A little color and some of the outside greenery inside would transform this restaurant and allow it to match the level of the superb food on offer. A little pricy on some items, but the quality of the food makes the journey well worth the ride.

I went to the "resort" for a wedding. The grounds are of historic interest (my teenage sons liked them and said they had a "Shining" kind of feel), and the setting is quite beautiful. I saw a number of herons. Otherwise, I have nothing good to say about the place. The room I was put in was NOT CLEAN. It was grimy, with cracks in the walls, bare nails sticking out where there once were pictures, splats of plaster. There was a phone, but it was purely a prop, as there was no connection and wires sticking out of the walls. The rusty tub had a shower at shoulder height. The faucet below the shower leaked, spraying water into a hole in the wall. Every time I used the toilet, I had to take off the lid to fix the plug in the toilet tank. The furniture was beat up--for instance there was just one folding chair that someone had scribbled on with a pen. There was an old TV on the floor. The sheets were gritty. I asked the desk clerk if they could fix the overhead light and porch light, neither of which worked. She said no. There was no bar service throughout the weekend. Walking around the grounds, there were random piles of bricks, lengths of wire. We went into the pool house and there was just old furniture scattered around. The smell indicated that some kind of creature had died somewhere in the building. I simply cannot believe that they have the audacity to charge for this kind of accommodation.

Dear Guest,

I am sorry to hear of the problems you experienced during your recent stay at our resort. We agree that the usual standards of services were not met in this instance. Though we do not usually rent these rooms to our guests, we agreed to rent out several of our un-renovated rooms due to the bride’s request to have most of her guests stay at the resort. Because these rooms have not been renovated, I understand that the front desk personnel notified guests before making reservations about the conditions of the rooms and guests were given the option of booking at a nearby hotel. We also provided shuttle services from the nearby hotel to our resort before and after the wedding to accommodate guests’ needs. After inspecting further, the bar was open on Friday and Saturday from 11AM-9PM with a full house. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences and would be happy to discuss the complaint further. My personal email is Sharon.k@hsresort.com. I will look forward to hearing from you and hope to have the opportunity to provide you the level of service you expect from Highland Springs Resort.

Best Regards,

Sharon Ko

Visited this property for a wedding, decided to stay overnight after the event at 4 PM
It is a nice size facility, many different settings for weddings could be accomodated.
The room we stayed was a good size, and beds comfortable.
The big but is when considering the condition of the rooms, hallways, and landscape...there is a great deal of maintenance pending. Old furniture, unfinished upgrades, or at least what appears to be.
For night time weddings is great because you cannot see all of these things.
Service was very good, all staff members were attentive, respectful and cordial.
