Owner description: Point Bonita today is part of the largest urban national park in the United States, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. A secret jewel of the Bay Area, Point Bonita is still an active lighthouse. The U.S. Coast Guard maintains the lighthouse and the National Park Service provides access to visitors. Point Bonita Lighthouse is reached by a half mile trail that is very steep in parts. Discover Point Bonita's wild landscape, geology and fascinating history. The tunnel halfway to the lighthouse is open only during visiting hours: Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Nice view from the bay and Golden Gate Bridge. It's windy but worth to spend between one and two hours. Take some water with you, no shops nearby.

“Great Views”

Beautiful Views, can see the harbor seals on the way, suspension bridge is petty cool. Lighthouse itself is not that impressive.

“Surprisingly cool”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2012

Great shots out there....the hike was short but there is a steep (paved) hill to climb back up once you're done. Not much to see at the lighthouse itself. The rangers were actually pretty cool...very enthusiastic, describing the light's history to the crowd, answering questions, etc. Only took an hour and was a short drive to Sausalito for a terrific lunch afterwards. Definitely worth it.

“Cute lighthouse, fun swinging bridge and great views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2012

Go over the GG Bridge. Pass the tourist lookout on the right (stay in right lane) and exit at the first exit. Turn left and double back toward the GG Bridge. Take first exit (comes up soon, so stay in the far right lane) and follow along until you arrive at the trail head for Point Bonita Lighthouse. Remember to take your camera because photography is allowed. Easy walk and great views of the GG Bridge, SF itself and, of course, the Lighthouse, with swinging footbridge approach. Take some water with you because although water is everwhere around there is none to drink. And since there is no charge for this attraction I am offering a money back guarantee of satisfaction.Have fun!

“Just another lighthouse”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

There's a gorgeous walk to the lighthouse, with great view's of the water and cliff-side. Once you get there the lighthouse is small and not that impressive.. But there are great views from the end of the tail, and from the light house.
