Tahoe Tropicana Lodge
Reviewed September 19, 2012

The Tahoe Tropicana Lodge was bulldozed away several years ago as part of a redevelopment plan. It no longer exists. The last time I saw the property it was an eerie plot of land studded with I-beams protruding from the soil. That was in 2008 or 2009. Construction of timeshares (I believe) had been stopped due to poor economic conditions.

The pool was really cold and dirty, the spa was ice cold over the 4th of July, the carpets were filthy and smelled really bad, the showers needed grout, the air conditioner was so loud we had to turn it off to talk, no screens on the bathroom windows, and the maintenance guy came around and could see right in our bathroom window, the beds were dirty and room service was very poor. No supply of shampoo; we had to buy it at Raleys a few blocks away. Bathrooms are totally dirty. These units were in disrepair condition. Furniture was very old and breaking. Furthermore, it's across the street from "The Block", which is a hotel for kids in their late teens. Super noisy! There were policemen in our parking lot and patrolling around! There was a huge pile of trash to look at every day from our window. This place needs total renovating.
It was only 1 block from the casinos and shopping, which was a plus, but it's worth it to spend a bit more to stay in the motel that doesn't physically make you sick.
The guy in the office, Martin, was very nice and did his best to accomodate folks regardless of the condition of this awful, sorry motel.

We stayed at the Tahoe Tropicana this past weekend and were disgusted by the state of our accomodations. In general, the hotel is shabby and in disrepair. The carpet in our room was dirty, the bedding was old and worn, there was a layer of dust on the head of the bed, the bathroom needed new paint and grout in the shower, there were no screens on the windows, the towels and sheets are of the lowest possible quality, the water in the pool looked cloudy and the spa had no water at all. We unfortunately had to stay two nights here, as our family had made the reservation together, and the second day we were not supplied with new towels in the bathroom. Any Motel 6, Super 8, Travelodge or other budget hotel would be a better choice if you're looking to save money. The only (emphasis on only) reason to stay here would be that the casinos are within easy walking distance, however this "pro" didn't come close to out weighing the many "cons".

I paid $75 per night for a supposedly 2.5 star hotel. The rooms and office were worn-out and run-down. The 70s carpet was dingy and dirty-looking. The paint is old and scratched. The furniture is old, worn and scratched. The bathrooms need serious updating to fix the patched walls, moldy grout in the tub, worn and damaged sink and vanity. The lamps and shades are wrapped in plastic, bent and broken. The TV remote didn't work, there were only about 10 channels available. The wall unit air conditioners are noisy. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean. I guess if you're just going out gambling and drinking all night and need a place to pass out afterwards, this would do.
