Owner description: Birdwoods Gallery is a very special place in the heart of Hawke's Bay. Set in the countryside just 3km from Havelock North Village, Birdwoods Gallery and its small companion, the Birdwoods Sweet Shop, are a 'must see' for young and old. Two historic buildings have been relocated to this pretty rural setting and transformed to become a distinctive and enchanting visitor attraction. Enjoy our famous morning or afternoon tea or come for a delicious garden lunch with family or friends. End it off with a delicious real fruit ice-cream from our little Ice Cream Shop.

This is one of our favourite places to take visitors to Hawkes Bay. The gallery is full of unique items many from Africa, jewellery, cards, candles, furniture, cushions, rugs, pottery and changing artworks. The garden outside is lovely with many sculptures for purchase in the grounds and outdoor seating for the cafe.

The cafe is in a airconditioned room with big windows overlooking the garden and offers a simple menu with tea, plunger coffee or local gingerbeer. Sweet or savoury scones are offered, lemon tart , chocolate brownie and 3 types of toasted sandwiches. The presentation is beautiful and always with a little posy of flowers.
The staff are friendly and efficient.

In the grounds which offer ample parking is the sweet shop which offers the famous Hawkes Bay Rush Munro icecream and you can select sweets from a myriad of jars of oldfashioned lollies. Children and indulgent grandparents will love it !

Outside as you approach the gallery is a wooden branch with beautiful handcrafted native birds waiting for homes. Definitely on my wish list. I have however been given for a significant birthday a beautiful lamp with peahen feathers that I treasure.

We also love the resident dog often sprawling at the front door. A wonderful place to visit with guests or for a quiet sojourn in a very peaceful setting.

We had a recommendation to visit the gallery and were not disappointed! The staff are excellent, very friendly and welcoming. The main shop / gallery inside is full of wonderful arts and gifts and I loved wandering around all of these unique things. You proceed up to a cafe / tearoom which is a lovely sunny room, looking out to the gardens. We ordered some fabby cakes and coffee and sat outside in the sunshine. Our 2 young daughters had a lovely time, running around, playing on the tree swings and exploring the sculpture garden. Some of the pieces are just stunning - unfortunately we were flying back to Auckland so couldn't fit anything into our luggage but we are hoping to go back. There is a cute little sweet shop next door which sells all of the old fashioned sweets, a trip down memory lane. A visit here is a must!

After finding several wineries not open for lunch or not open that day or whatever we were getting a bit peckish so a toasted sandwich & lovely cups of tea at Birdwoods were most welcome. The garden setting is lovely. The gallery full of fascinating goodies & one of the garden sculptures found its way into the back of our car! The pieces are reasonably priced & plenty of selection. Shona sculpture with strong African influence. Several children were enjoying the sculpture garden while the adults enjoyed the drinks. The sweet shops is a delight for the young & old alike. Very friendly staff & most helpful.
