The rooms were very clean, the weather is excellent, you can do many activities, all the rooms have a sea view. I really enjoyed my trip to Salvador. The only negative thing is that the food was good but always the same.

We went to royal Decameron March 6 to 13 . The staff is really friendly . Not enough people tipped the waiters and maids(1 dollar ) like we did that's why they served us the best . You should book the tours as soon as you get there because we waited to long and we didn't get to do any thing ! The resort is beautiful and the pools were great . The activities such as the aerobics and volleyball were also very good . The food was okay we survived.
The bar were close to the pools which was good because we get thirsty a lot . The shows were mostly dancing shows and the participation ones were really funny cause the people didn't know what the hell was going on . We meet lots of people like the waiters, the maids, the gardeners, and all the staff ! The all were friendly to us and that's one of the reasons we are going back ! Royal Decameron Stalinists was the best vacation we had so far!

The royal Decameron of el salvador was a very beautiful resort and filled with workers that try to help you in any way but i would say that at times there attitude could of been better. I spent most of my time relaxing on the beach under a palm tree in front of a very beautiful view.I traveled with my sister her daughter, mother and grandparents they had a great time joining daily activities in the resort and eating at the restaurants. Our rooms were all air conditioned and had standard cable with hot and cold water and nice and cosy beds. The restaurants were wonderful but the buffet could of been better with a new theme every night the chefs prepare food based on the theme the times i went was french, 60's,sea food and mexican but the breakfasts was all the same food every single day but the offered special foods that they cooked in front what ruined my visit was all the locals all jam packed with them giving people weird looks but over all they have tons of daily activities for all the family to enjoy

This is a beautiful resort filled with very hard working beautiful people. Accommodation and food all very good. Many opportuniites to explore. Decameron Explorer offer numerous types of tours and the tenure and experience of the guides is high. This is one place you do not want to miss. Seldom do we repeat a property (can't believe we have been there 3 times)...and we will go back again.

We enjoyed our time at the DeCameron. Staff was friendly and well organized. We don't expect the staff to understand English fluently, we got along fine. Our room was clean, beautiful views and vistas. Food was good with wide variety and choices. A large array of bird life was available to those willing to look. In the the lagoons on site we saw hundreds of nesting Snowy Egrets as well as other exotics. Pair that with multiple sittings of huge iguanas, we had a blast there.

Room Tip: Beach side is a must

My wife and I stayed for 2 weeks in block two on the top floor. This review is based on a comparison to many other all-inclusives that we have experienced in other parts of the world including a Decameron property in Cartagena. After reading the reviews, we got what we expected. We chose this property mainly as a base to do excursions in El Salvador of which we did many using both Decameron Explorer on property and Cuscatlán Travel off property. This property is in line with a three star property in Cuba. Those with resort experience in other places such as Mexico might be disappointed. Hopefully, this review will also correct some inaccurate information in previous reviews.

Positives:

1) Very hard-working staff who try very hard to speak English even though it is NOT their native tongue (the service issues mentioned in other reviews is the fault of management due to understaffing and cost cutting; some tourists here need to understand that they are visiting a SPANISH-speaking country)

2) Rooms are spacious and comfortable and kept very clean (quieter buildings are numbers four and five)

3) Spacious pools including a very large saltwater pool

4) Immaculately kempt property with gardeners toiling non-stop

5) Local feel as most guests are from neighbouring countries (I can't understand why some reviewers here would want many more Canadians and Americans when visiting a foreign country)

6) Never had a problem finding a sunbed under shade (large property that provides solitude or company for different occasions)

7) life guards on site monitoring both pool and ocean swimmers (the Pacific here can be dangerous but there are wave breakers)

8) hotel hires guards for security starting at the airport pickup (however, at times seems to overstate the security situation)

9) a cappuccino/espresso machine (however, only available after 10 a.m. and then only when it is manned or you have to ask a bartender to make you one; horrible coffee at breakfast as all the good stuff is exported!)

10) efficient transfers from/to the airport and room allocation

11) affordable and relaxing beachside hut massages (but why make a reservation at the gym only to have to then prepay at reception?)

Negatives:

1) nickel and diming (extra cost for safe, $2 for bus ride to Beach Club, overpriced lobster dinner at $45 p.p. when same can be had in restaurant outside resort for $16 p.p., overpriced tours considering it is based on large groups, sugary/junk food for snacks)

2) standard rushed large-group uninspiring tours in comparison to outside agency (see my separate Cuscatlan Travel review); tours/beach club transportation can be cancelled if there's little demand; keep in mind that time spent in Antigua/Copan depends on time spent on border crossings (factor 1-2 hours at sites with fast border crossings); incomprehensible lack of focus on some incredible towns in El Salvador proper (i.e Suchitoto) and an unwillingness to delve into the country's recent civil war history; roads are fine

3) food at the buffet is at best mediocre with uninspiring flavour (a la cartes were slightly better and no you don't have to be at reception at 6 or 7 a.m. to book as another reviewer stated, there's a morning and afternoon block of time in which they can be booked)

4) again food (so close to the ocean yet dull fish offerings, no shellfish except tiny shrimp if you're lucky; lack of local fruit such as mango and avocado; food not replenished when weekend crowds left)

5) poor quality drinks (but this didn't stop many from over-indulging, ditto for the food!; understaffed bar with tedious waits for drinks)

6) uncomfortable sunbeds (really, can't they splurge on some cushions?)

7) there's a disco but for some reason the bar area was used as a dancing venue ruining the lounging experience and sleep time in blocks one and two

8) at times unresponsive front desk staff (initial room door security concern not sufficiently followed up; luggage left unattended outside room door after check in)

9) monopolistic behaviour (resort doesn't allow other tour operators/taxis to pick up guests in the property inconveniencing guests to meet them at front entrance)

10) lack of visible presence of management (i.e. should be helping out in times of high guest volume at bar/restaurants, no mingling with guests to see how the stay is going)

11) the buffet restaurant near lobby 1 was used at lower guest capacity when the other one near lobby 2 is much nicer (higher ceiling, less crowded)

12) no towel art; lacking special touches

13) very slow WIFI

Overall, this resort met our realistic expectations. We enjoyed exploring El Salvador but probably wouldn't return to this Decameron if we visited again. We'd recommend it as a one time visit for the sake of seeing some of this recovering country.

Room Tip: blocks 4 and 5 are quieter; blocks 1 and 2 are closer to the action

A friend of mine and I went from March 20-27th. First I want to say that we paid $940 from Toronto for the all inclusive. I think a lot of these reviews on here are hard to gauge because we don't know how much someone paid. If I paid $650 for this resort I would be ecstatic (and some people did) for $1500 I would be a bit disappointed.

Food:
The food was better than I expected. The variety at the buffet isn't great, but you're not going to starve. There were only a couple meals that I was really disappointing in. This resort actually did beef better than any other AI I have been to. Fusion was the best A la Carte, and Bambu was the worst. I would skip Bambu and do Fusion twice (If you like seafood). For reservations we were able to make them for the whole week the day we arrived. I think people who struggle with reservations are people who come in for a couple days mid week. They're probably all booked up by the people that come in from Toronto and Montreal on AI's, so for them it's easy to get reservations.

Rooms:
The rooms are basic, clean and have comfy beds. There's not much more you could ask for. Most rooms have an ocean view.

Chairs:
The chairs around the pool are a plenty, but they're sooo freaking uncomfortable. We brought dollar store chair cushions for our butts and backs, they helped, but I wish I had a blow up raft.

Spanish:
Yes, most people at the resort speak Spanish, you are in Central America. Do your best to speak Spanish, it's not tough to pick up the basics. The only time it was sort of tough was in the restaurants, the people who take your order don't speak English. However most of the people serving wine seemed to speak English, I thought that was a bit backwards, but we made it through.

Day Trips:
lots of day trip options. Anywhere from $50 - $100

Spa:
You can reserve the tamascalli (steam hut) the day before. It's a great experience, you should go, it's included. Also, you can reserve the jacuzzi for a half hour at a time and it's also included, and there are some comfy chairs there. I got a massage for $35 for a 50 minute massage. It was great and really relaxing.

Pools:
There are 5 pools to choose from. The one by fusion is always very quiet. You're also able to get free wifi at a lot of the pools.

Enjoy!
