“Beautiful resort,fantastic weather”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Royal Decameron is a huge resort, exceptionally well kept grounds ,very clean and well organized. The ride from the airport to the hotel is 2 hours but that time is used to do the check in and give all necessary info plus a snack is served for starving travelers.Upon arrival to the resort you can go directly to your room change and start enjoying your time.It would be helpful if you have a bathing suit and sandals in your hand bag as the luggage will arrive later in your room.No worries for the weather from Dec -April as this is the dry season,so you have sunshine everyday,30-34 degree,27 at night. As for the pools there are 3 huge ones ,plus the lagoon when the tide is high and the sea water pool.I read lots of complains about the swimming pools but each has its own charm and just be patient with the tide ...Concerning the location of the rooms ,buildings 2 and 3 are more centrally located ,4&5 are nearer to activities, but wherever you are it takes few minutes to reach a restaurant or a bar.
Food: breakfast is complete you have everything .Dinner and supper the variety was more local taste ,so if you don't like it there is always the fast food restaurant ,where you have good hamburgers freshly baked chips, hot dogs and chicken. For supper you can book à la carte restaurants or accommodate yourself in the buffet.
Every night you have entertainment, mostly it is in Spanish but they always try to translate and accommodate the foreigners .
We heard people complaining about the tide ,the food, the language, the location of their rooms, the kind of alcoholic drinks, anything and everything ...What's important is to understand that we are in Central America ,it's not a Hilton and we don't have french cuisine and wine.
Just appreciate the fantastic weather ,the clean and beautiful surrounding and take advantage of all the amenities .
I would definitely return just for the sake of the sunsets.

Room Tip: Higher level rooms have better view of the ocean and sunsets.

Hotel Royal Decameron Salinitas - El Salvador its located within a Beautiful área, the building, swimming pools, recreation activities, Staff, gardens etc aré great. The food is the issue... Ugly food served every where within the resort. I will no recommend to but the all inclusive package, go just for acommodation.

The resort is big and there is NO option to walk anywhere off the resort unless you go on one of their excursions. There are many places to eat on the resort (the a la cartes can be booked in the either lobby - stand in line first thing in the morning at 7 am ad you can book all 3 restaurants at a time). The restaurants are ok; food is not bad for an all inclusive. But this place is not friendly at all. We have travelled to most of the islands in the area and this is the worst for customer service in that no one speaks any English here. They speak to you all the time in Spanish and when you say you don't understand something (in Spanish!) - they just keep talking to you in Spanish. You'd think they could learn a few English phrases in the restaurants - but nothing. They are very inflexible here and our Nolitours reps were of no help for anything other than trying to sell you a tour. The absolute worst thing about this trip was that they 'fog' the resort either every day or every second day. Thank goodness another tourist told us about it. We were sitting down at the far end of the resort watching the sun go down and all of a sudden everyone started running...this huge cloud of pesticide had just been sprayed over the pool and was coming our way. It was a nightmare. They also spray inside the a la cartes every night just moments before you go and eat. It is a shame because they have beautiful iguanas and lizards everywhere on the resort; turtles and fish in the lake behind building 3 and the white egrets come every night to sleep in the trees - they are so beautiful. This is not an intimate resort and very had to meet people due to the sheer size of the grounds. We got very sick after eating the chicken from the snack bar - both of us within about an hour and it lasted for 3 days.

Room Tip: Tip the servers and housekeeping girls. Their smiles are beautiful!

If you want perfect weather in January, El Salvador is it. This was our 7th visit to Decameron and was just as great as before. They charge extra now for the 'superior' rooms (with balcony) and as we stay for 2 weeks, we like the balcony rooms/building. Unfortunately, we had a big tree in front of our room, which blocked most views (3410).

It would be nice for a change in their restaurant menus, i.e. alternating every other week a different menu choice, or simpling adding a different dish one week. The salmon is wonderful, but a bit disappointed in the Bambu Thai restaurant, the food is not the same/good as before - big shrimp skewers and great pad thai, but now its down to 1 skewer of smaller shrimp with fish sticks, and the pad thai is just too much of sauce (better than last year though).

Don't need to elaborate on the rooms and well maintained grounds as everyone has done this. The staff are wonderful, always smiling and polite (a little more English it seems) and most service was very good and no complaints, except for one .. at the Bambu bar - that bar has gotten busier and lineups got way too long due to only 2 bartenders, which always drained down to 1 bartender (and usually around 4) because when the other person was busy filling up beer, juices, cleaning, etc. you ended up with 1 person and 15-20 people.
I spoke with some of the managers explaining the problem, and they apparently listened as the bar was then staffed with 3 bartenders and lineups went faster with this better service.

We noticed many managers attending the bars, buffets, checking the pool and really reviewing the areas, watching everything, hopefully for improvements in areas they may have found lacking the best services, etc. Understand new owners and checking things out for the betterment of the resort.

We have met some great people there. We look for our favourite waiters/bar tenders and other staff, and most are still there. This is a great resort and look forward to more years there, but we see the prices appear to be climbing which could deter some people because you lose almost a day each way with the flight and 2 hour bus ride.

We really like the Decameron and give it a thumbs up and high recommendations. Texsas

Six of us spent a fabulous week at this resort. It was the cleanest resort that I have ever been to, both the grounds and the rooms. We stayed in Tower 4, which gives you a bigger balcony and a beautiful view of the resort and the amazing sunsets(I would think that tower 3 would give you the same views.)The beds were very comfortable and the rooms very spacious.
The staff were very friendly and very accommodating even though they didn't always speak the language. We tried our best with Spanish because it is their first language.
The food at the buffet was different every night and very good quality. We preferred the buffet to the a la cartes but in saying that the Italian restaurant was superb.
The bars were sometimes busy but that is to be expected when everyone there is on holiday. It is a good idea to bring a travel mug as the cups are small and flimsy and a coolie cup will keep your drink cold. The wine is your typical resort wine but you can buy better wine at the on-site store.
If you are looking for a quiet pool the one at the far end by Pastafori will work for you and there is a bar there but no food. The pool by the main bar can get busy but it is big enough that you don't really notice. The pool by Tower 4 seems to be where the locals and timeshare holders hang out.
The ocean water is very warm and enjoyable when the tide is in. The saltwater pool doesn't seem very clean so I didn't venture in but the sunset beside it is spectacular.
I am still undecided on the $2 bus ride to the beach. The chairs are quite away back from the water itself and the sand is extremely hot. There is a small pool at the beach property which we did use to cool off.
Overall our experience was a very good one. This resort is for people who are interested in just relaxing and taking in the sun and the sand . We would most certainly go back to this resort.

Room Tip: Tower 3 and 4. Larger balconies.

I had heard a lot about Decameron. I finally decided to go there. NOT A GOOD CHOICE
our rooms were not ready. We had to wait one hour. Finally got into the room. I went to take a shower and the water was not draining. I was standing on dirty water while showering...
After that, I went looking for something to eat, but there was no food, only Hamburger and hot dogs. Finally they opened the buffet and had a ok food, nothing really good.
Now, be sure NOT TO SIGN ANYTHING.You will be sorry if you sing any type of contract. DO NOT SIGN.

Room Tip: GOOD LUCK. I would go somewhere else!

This was our second visit to this resort. We usually do not return to the same resort but we were so impressed last year we went back. The resort is the cleanest I have ever seen. The buffet at supper was not as good this year as last but we never went hungry. The beach trip is worth the time as the beach at the resort is a bit rocky. We flew out of Montreal this year and will not do that again. If you don't speak french chances are you won't know why you are late leaving as the airline does not say everything in english. I have been told that the Decameron has sold off all their hotels I am hoping this is not the reason for a poorer choice at the buffet. It is well worth the bus ride to and from the airport. We met some great people and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets.

Room Tip: We have stayed in Block 1 both visits and find this to be a great location. It is quiet and close t...
