“Beautiful place to Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

We travelled to the Royal Decameron on Jan.31st-Feb.7th 2013. This was our Second time to this Resort and we love it. Sure the bus ride is almost 2 hrs but if daylight at least you get to see the country side. One thing in which they should think of is having a toilet on the bus, for some people its' too long to hold even if not drinking OR have a rest stop half way where you may go to the bathroom and have a beverage if you like.
The grounds are kept gorgeous, people are very friendly, rooms are large and kept very clean, water pressure in shower was great! All the pools are clean and amazing. Beautiful Sunsets every night! Food selection is plenty, but I will say for some reason this time I found the food way to salty compared to 2 yrs ago when we were there.
I will suggest Julio who we had both times and he will take you in his own car for a reasonable fee and take you where you would like to go. Julio is awesome, since 2yrs ago his English had improved also. Since Julio does not work with the Hotel you have to go the Spa and ask them to get a hold of him for you. Front desk is not allowed too, only because under the Rules of Hotel, which is understandable! We had a full fun day with Julio and even following night went out for an amazing dinner only 10 mins from Hotel on the Cliff of Ocean. We had a Huge Plate shrimp lobster tail rice and a bit more food for Only 19.00 each U.S. Also had live music for only 3.00 per song and this guys were great!
Azul Beach is also something to see, we went 2 days in a row. Beautiful large beach where your drinks & food are included and you can boogie board or go for a long walk on the beach!
Another spot just 10 mins also is the Marina, they bring in fresh fish daily and you can pick your fish very reasonable and they will filet it. Rebbaca's is across from it and she will cook it for you, so yummie! We went there 3 times between both trips.
I would suggest this resort an we plan in near future returning again! Any Questions just send me a message :)

Room Tip: We stayed in Block 2 Central Location to everything. Quiet building I believe would be Block 4 &...

My boyfriend and I stayed here on an all inclusive package from Toronto and got everything for $700 with Nolitours - hotel, flight, food, booze, literally everything. The hotel grounds were gorgeous and the water in the ocean is actually warm, despite the fact that it is the Pacific. The hotel features many pools as well as a salt water pool that is filled when the ocean is at high tide - such a cool experience. The staff there were super friendly, although the majority of them don't speak English, so spruce up your Espanol a bit before you go. The discoteca closes at 2am and plays alot of latino music, which was fun.

Also, if you go on a weekend, that is typically when all the locals from San Salvador (the capital city) will stay at the resort so you can mingle with locals and meet new International friends...bonus!

The food was pretty good, way better than Cuba that's for sure! The steak at the fusion restaurant was by far my favourite dish of the whole week. yum yum yum.

HUGE TIP: bring a traveling mug because the cups they give you are super small and, trust me, you'll want more. also get the pina coladas and ask for a double with white rum :)

The excursions they offer are great aswell. We went on the one to La Antigua, Guatemala. A bit of a trek but it was only like $100 each Canadian. For a day trip to another country, that's pretty stellar. La Antigua was stunning and we drove past tons of volcanoes along the way, very cool.

Also, if you're worried about Tourist Cards, the hotel takes cares of it and they gave us all individual tourist cards for our Passport as soon as we got off the plane.

All in all, I would go back to this resort, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone else wanting to go. I would suggest getting off the resort, either on your own (the hotel offers daily shuttle service to San Salvador, just ask at the front desk) or on one of the Royal Decameron excursions. You won't regret it!

Room Tip: Stay in a room in either building 1 or 2. Near the main lobby. The resort is actually quite big so i...

We really enjoyed our trip to this resort. Would go here again, worst part is getting there.....long flight and long bus ride.
The grounds are immaculate and rooms are kept very clean (feel for the maids, as I am sure we tracked in alot of sand)
We had no problems booking the a la cartes. Dont bother with trying to book a couple of days in advance as u will be told they are all full, just go down early every morning and book and u will have your choice of them. We ate supper at them every night excluding one. We enjoyed all but the steak house. Had heard so much about the great steak there, but at least what we ordered was tough! Had steak (beef medallion) at the Fushion (meditranion) resturant and it was GREAT. We felt this was the best restaurant, however a bit out of the way and tricky to find.
Stayed in room1147 (block one ground floor) Opened our patio door and had ocean view. Would not have wanted to be on second or third floor there as balconies were really small.
If anyone has any question or wants a copy of the resort map ahead of time feel free to contact myself.
Staff should learn more english (as I should also learn more spanish)

Resort is huge. Maintenance of the grounds is fantastic. Was a little surprised that a lot of the front service personal couldn't speak English very well, but hand gestures are an international language. The bus ride from the airport is long (2hrs) empty your bladder before you get on the bus. Once your there, you'll be surprised how fast the time will go. I would defiantly go again. I would also highly recommend this resort.

Excellent time at this resort- food was great, loved trying different foods suchas the tamales, pupusas, mole sauce- the grounds of course were very well maintained and our room exceeded our expecatations!!
The only negative I would give this resort would be that there are not enough bars to service the guests at the resort. My husband honestly was in line for drinks for over 30 minutes, which I feel is completely unacceptable. There needs to be a small beach bar that would take the pressure of of the Bambu bar near building 4. Also, I think this resort would be better if there were an adults only section - several times the pool was overrun with toddlers and inflatable animals - it made it hard to swim because there were so many inflatables in the pool and the constant screaming/whining was far from relaxing.
I would however recommend this resort to anyone. The food was fantastic, the weather amazing, the people were friendly and the grounds were absolutely beautiful! You will have a great time here!!!

We stayed at the Decameron from January 31 to February 7. The whole airport welcome and hotel check in process was the most efficient we have ever experienced anywhere. Drinks and snacks were available on the bus. When we arrived at the hotel, no sooner than we had stepped off the bus, we were offered welcome drinks and directed to the check in area and ultimately to the buffet which had stayed open for dinner for us. There were so many staff available then, we couldn't have gotten lost if we had tried! Staff looked after getting our luggage off the bus and to our room.

Overall Impressions - Beautiful and clean! As others have noted, the resort is beautifully landscaped and maintained meticulously. Beach and pool chairs are always being straightened, walkways are swept and hosed down frequently.Pools are spotlessly clean. The restaurants are continually being swept and kept clean. They even hose down the beach chairs at night. It is a big resort, but very pleasant to walk through with the winding paths and beautiful gardens.

Staff - They are very friendly and anxious to please. No matter who you encounter, from servers to maids to gardeners, they're always smiling. Most staff speak very little English. We were lucky to have a few really good servers who provided us with great service with an ever present smile. They do work very hard, so a smile, a pleasant attitude and a little Spanish goes a long way.

Food - There is good variety in the buffets and we enjoyed the two a la carte restaurants we tried (Bambu Thai and the Maya Grill). Rating the food is so subjective, since everyone has different expectations, so I am not going to say any more other than we really enjoyed it and found plenty to choose from.

One small frustration was not being able to get coffee easily early in the morning. They do set up self-serve coffee stations at the bar by the Bambu Buffet and the main bar at 6:00 a.m. If you get there at 6:45, it's likely all gone and they tell you to go to the buffet. The bars do not open until 10:00 a.m., so getting a cappuccino before then is not possible.

At lunch and dinner, if you ask for wine, they will take your glass away, fill it at the bar and return. Each time you would like more, they repeat the process, instead of having wine bottles a their serving stations.

Room - Basic room with king bed and two singles and with shower only. We had a ground floor room, so were able to sit out on a little terrace facing the beach. The room was kept very clean each day and two bottles of water were provided as well as enough soap and shampoo. No coffee maker or fridge - there is an extra charge if you wish these.

Beach - An interesting beach with the volcanic rocks, especially when the tide goes out. Not my favourite type of beach, as we prefer the Caribbean; however, I can't complain about being able to lay under a palapa all day watching the tides come and go and listening to the surf, with a balmy breeze all day. Oh, and the weather was hot and sunny (30+ each day).

Entertainment - A different themed show is performed each evening in the amphitheatre - lots of dance numbers, with excellent dancers and costumes. However, no singers or other musical acts, other than a live band which performed in a different area.

Excursions - We went to the Costa Azul Beach Club one day. Plenty has been said about it in other reviews. We really enjoyed the bus ride there and back - it's always great to see the local countryside.

We also went on the San Salvador Volcano, La Libertad and Coatepeque Lake Tour. Had a great day seeing so many different things, especially lunch at an outdoor cafe in the mountains.
We felt it was good value and we saw and learned a lot about El Salvador from our guide, Jorge.

Medical Services - Unfortunately, both of us came down with some kind of stomach flu. I got over it in two days, but my husband's recovery was a lot slower necessitating a trip to the infirmary. There is no charge to visit the infirmary and speak to the nurse about your symptoms. If you wish a consultation with the doctor, the charge is $40, plus cost of any medications provided. We were able to make ourselves understood with the nurse between English and Spanish. The doctor speaks very good English.

We learned that apparently many guests were experiencing similar symptoms. We don't know what caused this for us and we can't speculate or lay blame as it could be related to many different things. We did notice that a day or two after we became ill, they were posting staff at the buffett entrances with alcohol sanitizer for all the guests to use before and after eating at the buffett.

For anyone who is planning to go to this resort, I would suggest that you take with you a supply of Gravol, Immodium, hand sanitizer and anything else that your health care provider may suggest, just so that you can protect yourself to the best of your ability. Having said that, sometimes these things happen without rhyme or reason, but being prepared can't hurt.

Overall, illness aside, we thoroughly enjoyed the resort and everything it had to offer. It's a great spot spend a week with summer type temperatures in February. Now, it's back to the snow shovelling here in the GTA!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have a small terraced with chairs and a table. Higher floors have only a juliet...

A lot of positive and a little bit of negative. Pros: Great rooms, great food, public areas and pools are clean, friendly staff, entertainment is good and a lot of security. Cons: very long bus ride to and from the airport(2-2 1/2 hours), entertainment is for the most part in Spanish(even with Canadians or Americans) participating, pool activities are far and not very apparent, snack bars double as a la carte restaurants therefore close early and bars only one is open late.

We traveled 9th to 16th January and weather was awesome 35-36 Celsius, we did a few excursions (only one tour operator), the hotel was very accommodating for handicapped people except for the one buffet that operates on 2 floors, when the lower is closed there is no elevator to get wheelchairs or mobility scooters up. Great place for families to enjoy, its a nice place to relax not a party hotel. 2$/per person to go to Azul beach is worth it but you have to spend 4 hours there, there is a snack bar and bar, boogie boards and cool waves.
