We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at the George at Wath. What a hidden gem.We received a warm welcome from Caroline and Dean. The rooms were well equipped, clean and cosy. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Caroline organised a taxi for us to go to the races nothing was too much trouble her and the staff. We are booking again next year. We highly recommend The George at Wath

We went for sunday lunch after reading the positive reviews on the way to a weekend away. It is a little off the beaten track but well worth a visit. It was a quiet afternoon, although the staff told us they had had a run of a couple of weeks where they were extremely busy, mainly through word of mouth. We were sat in a little restaurant and felt that the staff had the perfect balance of being attentive yet leaving us to enjoy our meal. The portions were very generous, so much so that we couldn't fit in a dessert (unfortunately!). The food was tasty and is highly recommended.

We hope that this venture is successful and should we ever be in that part of the country again we would definitely return.

This establishment is a small and apparently popular local inn just north of Ripon. On the basis of other reviews, we asked for a room not over the kitchen, bar and dining area. In spite of being toward the back, we could still hear noise from those areas (it was a Saturday night, but still.)
Our "Ripon Room" had stairs leading up to the bedroom area which had a window area to use for one suitcase, another suitcase rack, and wall-hung TV. A desk, mirror, and closet were in the entry area opposite the bathroom, which had a tub/shower and towel warmer. There was liquid soap, hand wash, and lotion. Parking was in the back of the inn and wifi was included with the room, although the signal was very weak and would drop out.
Dinner was very good, although service was slow, probably because of the activity in the bar. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the stuffed chicken breast. Sunday breakfast was cooked to order.
All in all, this was expensive compared to other places during our Scotland trip.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room away from the bar, street, restaurant, etc. if you want to sleep.

2 night stay as we were walking in the Dales over the weekend. Great position in a tiny village, 5 minutes from the A1. The owners and their staff were just what you hope for, friendly, very helpful, not in your face, there when you need them. The service, food, ambiance, rooms were all very good. We visit this area every year and we will certainly return - recommend highly.

Well I don't really know where to start! Organising a wedding is very stressful.....unless you have Caroline (owner) helping, she takes everything in her stride, which made me more relaxed. Nothing was a issue for Caroline, if I suggested something, she would find a way to make it better, if we were worried about something, she puts your mind at ease! Thank you Caroline for all your hard work.
The food options.....Scott knows what he's talking about, if he suggests something - go with it!!! Not 1 guest had anything bad to say about our meal, and people have said they will be staying here next time they visit us. The food service was fantastic, everything flowed extremely well, and there was no rushed feeling you can get at weddings. Eton mess......heavenly!!!
The rooms are gorgeous, the bed in York room was the comfiest I have slept in for a long time and HUGE!!

We can not thank Scott, Caroline and family enough for making our day so special......can we do it again please???

I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a wedding venue, place to stay or a pub meal........FANTASTIC!!!!

Love Kate & Ed Buerdsell (eeekkkk how cool is that)

We have just returned from our daughters wedding at the George and we're still on a high. The atmosphere was just fantastic. What a great choice they made by holding their Wedding there. The location, the village, the venue, the reception... all amazing. Caroline was absolutely brilliant. She couldn't do enough to help to make the day perfect for our daughter. Even down to giving her last minute directions and advice before the ceremony. And the food prepared by Scott was fantastic. Beautifully presented and delicious. A truly hidden gem in the heart of Yorkshire.A big big thank you.
