Four of us has the Sunday Carvery here- lovely atmosphere in an old school building-dining room overlooking the grounds and out to sea - the food served was hot, tasty and well cooked- certainly a place to return - handy as it is local for us.

The Calder House Hotel is a great hotel to stay. The rooms are nicely furnished and the service is excellent. The bar is cosy and gives a welcoming atmosphere. The meals are reasonably priced and are very tasty to boot. All in all I'd have no hesitation in going back to the Calder House, it was well worth the money and the views over the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man are wonderful.

The rooms here are average, but the view out over the Irish sea from mine was superb. The gem in this hotel is however the chef! The ribeye steak I had was quite simply the best I've ever had. It looked like several others knew of his skills as many others were eating there.

Room Tip: One looking out to sea

Stayed for 6 nights on business and was thoroughly well looked after by Steve and Andy. Room was perfect overlooking the shore. Breakfast was lovely each day. Vast menu each night with steak and curry themed evenings. All staff were very friendly and very dedicated to ensure your stay at Calder House Hotel is memorable for all the right reasons. Excellent housekeeping. Due to leaving early on the Saturday morning Andy offered to provide packed lunch which was a lovely touch! Make sure you enjoy Steves' legendary green frog cocktail. Absolute lush! The only negative I found was lack of O2 signal but it is quite common in those parts.

booked this hotel for friday 20 th jan and got 2 nights for the price of one.paid an extra 5-00 for a seaview and it was fantastic with the sea no more than 75 yards away when the tide was in.not sure if i would pay 75-00 per night but it was good value for 2 nights although i m not sure if the breakfast we got both mornings did nt reflect the offer price.the meals on offer on an evening were a bit pricey as is usual in this part of the world but the quality of the food and the cooking was first class and unusually for this area the drinks were reasonably priced with some lovely real ales available.it is a fabulous converted victorian house and has been lovingly restored over the last few years by the co-owners.we wood probably consider another winter break here as we really enjoyed the hotel and not even a power cut covering the whole village on the friday night spoiled things.to finish off our weekend we had an exciting journey to windermere over the hardknott and wrynose passes where right near the end of the second pass i hit a submerged pothole and ripped a front tyre.even after having to buy a new tyre when we got home we still had a brill weekend.

Room Tip: having stayed in one ourselves i suggest booking a seaview room.

I stayed here for two nights on a book one night get one free offer (Friday-Saturday ) , I thought it was exceptional value for money , but would also return if it was at the full price. We booked a seaview room which was nicely decorated and had all the usual amenities , the owners and staff were very friendly and welcoming . We ate in the bar both nights and found the food to be good value and nicely served . The breakfasts were cooked very well and there was plenty of choice of cereals . I would stay here again when next in the area

Room Tip: book a seaview room

Smallest room ever had, actually pulled a muscle in my back trying to dry myself in the tiny bathroom. Had food in the bar at night, at another table the group of people there were being racially abusive. Later found out, when we conplained to the owner, it was a staff member on a night off. Nothing was done by owner about our complaint.
Breakfast was horrid, first time ever gave up with the cooked breakfast and just had toast, last morning didn't even bother going down for breakfast.
Definately wouldn't recommend this place.
