“Roly's experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

I have stayed at the Bailey Ground every week over the past year and I haven't had one bad experience in all those visits. It is a family run hotel and they have always looked after me as if I was a member of their family. The rooms are clean and well looked after, the food is excellent and always piping hot and the staff are really friendly and helpful. It is right on the sea front at Seascale where the locals are pleasant and friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I will have no hesitation in returning with my family in the future if I ever visit the area for holidays etc. It is a great place to stay!!

Room Tip: Any room is good.

I stayed in this hotel last week 27/08/13 for 5 nights on b/b basis
I had a double room small but clean inside,Kettle provided for hot drinks
The hotel is on the sea front in a quiet area overlooking the beach
Braekfast was ok always piping hot, sausage was like cardboard every day.
help yourself to toast and drinks etc.The evening meals were expensive and not alot of it,sausage and mash cost 12.99 and came in a small bowl..I had 1 pint in the bar which cost me £4,20 didnt go in again. The windows were filthy
you could hardly see through them,i l now its sea front but it looked like they had not been cleaned for months this put me off with first impressions,Restaurant staff were friendly and polite.I showered the first night, when i got back in after work the next day the bed had been made but the towels i had used were still on the floor.

Stayed here for one night. Upon arrival there was no one around to check me in, even after ringing the bell, had to wait 10 minutes for someone to appear. When she did she was very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are dated although clean. The bathroom was very clean and had a nice big shower.

The dinner was average - the waitress was very busy and I didn't get my drink until the end of the meal.

Overall it was clean and the rooms were ok but I would not stay here again due to the basic rooms and the dated decor.

My daughter and I stayed here overnight earlier this week. We both found it a very pleasant hotel. An ample sized car park, clean rooms, free wifi and very friendly staff.
The food was excellent too. We had dinner and breakfast. The dinner menu gave a good choice of all the favourites, service was friendly and efficient. Our breakfast was a similar experience - the full english brekafast really set us up for the long day ahead.
This is not your ultra chic smart hotel but it cannot be faulted for its friendly helpful staff which make it some where I would hapily reccomend and return to

Only had 2 nights here but would definitely recommend. The service is excellent so was the food. Decent sized rooms with very comfortable beds. Only downside is that there isn't a very good phone signal but that's no detriment to the hotel as they have a signal booster

On a trip to Seascale and waiting for the tide to go out, we had our "ceremonial" trip to Bailey's Ice Cream Parlour. Situated underneath the hotel , with fantastic views over the Irish Sea, easily recognised from the outside by a life size "cow" next to the entrance.
But this is not "just" an ice-cream parlour! After a visit last year,we discovered they do a great Pannini or Jacket Potato! I may be sad , but on the drive from Carlisle , I was dreaming about the Coronation Chicken Jkt...
Portions are huge and delcicious, huge chunks of tasty chicken, sultanas and a lovely spicy curry sauce accompanied with a huge salad. My mum had a loaded Jkt with cheese, also with salad.
My daughter had the kids meal. She doesn't like sandwhiches so I asked if they could deconstruct it, fresh buttered bread, slabs of ham, crisps, bowl strawberries, OJ and a scoop of ice cream for just 3.50.
Wonderfull range of ice creams, all home made with milk from the family's dairy farm.
I recommend the Kendal Mint Cake!
Our total bill, including our ice creams and drinks for 2 adults and one child was just over 15 pounds. Fantastic value.
Relaxed , very friendly staff. Cosy, comfy seating with seaside themed pictures on the walls and cushions.
Today was a bright sunny day but Seascale , even on the warmest day ,can be very breezy with wild winds, Bailey's makes a great warm shelter from the elements.

On arrival at the Bailey Ground the hotel looks very dated, as does the surrounding area, however this is soon forgotten when you meet the staff who are very friendly and helpful. The meals at the hotel are straight forward wholesome food and plenty of it, no chance of going hungry with the portions. If there is a let down then it must be the rooms, mine was small and compact and with the way the bathroom was laid out I could only open the shower door about 18 inches because of the sink.
In conclusion if you want a fancy hotel don't pick the Bailey Ground, if you want good plentiful food and a bed for the night then the Bailey Ground is ideal. One last point, it was enjoyable to sit on the grass at the front of the hotel in the evening, relaxing and watching the sun set, contemplating which meal I was to eat that evening.
