“A welcome break from "brands"”
Reviewed May 19, 2011

Had meetings in Northampton and Wellingborough so decided to stay here as it looked convenient and unusual.

Room was clean and well equipped (tea / coffee in room) also the art deco touches added some welcome charm after recent holiday inn etc experiences.

Looking at other reviews I can only assume someone has taken on board the criticsms and the food was excellent both at dinner and for breakfast . The young lady on reception was helpful and efficient. Price for room and food seemed very reasonable.

Great place and nice comfortable rooms! I was there with my partner for a business trip, and we both love anything to do with WW2 and the RAF so the place was fantastic. But so let down by poor what i can only think is management, as the girl who checked us in (from the bar as reception was closed, so not very inviting) was very nice and pleasant. The food was very very basic but nice enough, but as others have reported on here, not everything was available). It wasnt very busy, but what really did upset me was two guys at the bar, really loud and swearing really badly, now i can eff and jeff like the rest of them, but not in a hotel where there was a party of 60+yr olds, but no one wants to hear that. They should have been told to keep it down, but the girls never bothered whether they didnt feel they were able i dont know. It could be a wonderfully busy hotel but that kind of thing let it down! Its not a rowdy chav bar, its a hotel, there needs to be standards.

Had to stay near Wellingborough for business, being a private pilot I decided to stay at the Aviator in Sywell, after flying in earlier in the year. The hotel is really nice with all of it's art deco touches and links to flying. Overall I had a very pleasant stay, the price was very reasonable and it offered something different to your run of the mill Hilton's.

The room I was fine, only gripes were not great wireless signal in my room, and quite a small TV with only 5 channels, but this was only a minor complaint.

The staff were very friendly, the food in the restaurant for dinner was very good, and being an airfield you can pretty much garantee a great breakfast!

I have stayed at this hotel five times since first using it in 2007. My most recent trip was 3 nights Sat. to Mon..
The room was spotless and fully equiped with hairdrier, spare pillows & ample towels, tv, tea making facilities, bathroom with heated mirror etc, The modern rooms are furnished in art deco style to complement the 1930s flying club building which has been tastefully extended and houses the reception, bar, restaurant, & some conference / function rooms. The accommodation building is purpose built & just across the (private) car park.
The meals we had in the restaurant (plus a light bar meal on Sat. lunchtime) were all excellent chef made meals, not prepacked microwave fare!
Two points worth noting, the restaurant is normally closed Sunday evenings & the room and breakfast prices are usually quoted excluding VAT.
I will definately use this hotel again.

My daughter and her husband hired this venue for a 1930s event to celebrate their wedding (rather than the usual wedding reception). The venue, with its art deco theme, was a perfect backdrop and with a marquee added provided an ideal setting for such an event. It was a wonderful evening and the hotel staff did all they could to make it successful eventhough they had not attempted an evening like this before with cocktails and canapes served every 45 minutes. Most of the guests stayed at the hotel and were very happy with the accommodation. The art deco theme is continued in the bredrooms which adds to the ambience. We had no problem with noise keeping us awake. An evening meal for 10 of us was no problem and they even opened the restaurant early for us prior to the main event. The only slight let down was the breakfast as we kept running out of food. However, this had not been a problem the previous day when my husband and I stayed as we had our breakfast freshly cooked for us.

The Aviator provides good value both in terms of the standard of accommodation and the quality of food and range of drinks.
This is an ideal venue for anyone who likes Art Deco styling and/or has an interest in aviation, the attention to detail in the Deco decoration is very good.

I've had the dubious 'pleasure' of staying at the hotel several times now to attend business meetings. It does have some good facilities as a venue for small exhibitions or seminars etc, and can provide a reasonably decent buffet/ pread for lunch. Great views on a nice day with airborne entertainment occasionally 'laid on' FOC.
However, sadly that is where the positives stop.
The bedrooms, although perfectly clean and comfortable, all seem to suffer from noise in one guise or another - so a peaceful nights sleep can only be achieved through being comatose from alcohol. If its not the incredibly noisey road outside, then it will no doubt be the slamming of other guests bedroom doors or car doors, or worse still.....some would be helicopter pilot practicing his hovering 50mt away at 7.30 in the morning!
Having had a restless nights 'sleep' and with the pillows sadly not big enough to deaden the noise of any of the above, one makes his weary way to the breakfast restaurant, where for some reason you cant necessarily sit where you would like to. The breakfast buffet is decidedly average and not good enough to win back any points. Evening meals are ok, but not a gastronomic delight! The bar is ok, so long as they dont try to charge your room for drinks that you've already paid for at the bar.
Finally, the gents loo in the foyer could do with more regular attention to be blunt about it - I dont expect it to smell like a rose garden but I do expect it to be cleaned on a more regular basis.
In short - I think it lacks leadership!
