Our tour company, Great Lakes Safaris, transferred us to Primate Lodge Kibale after we refused to stay at Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve. We were impressed by the grounds and facilities. Great tented cabins, hot water showers, comfortable beds. Very friendly staff. Our tent was over a 5 minute walk from the main lodge and restaurant, so be prepared to walk. However, they provided umbrellas and even offered to escort you if you wished, so we felt very safe.
The food at the restaurant was some of the best we'd ever eaten. We personally thanked the chef.
One important point: the staff told us to properly zip our tented cabins closed during the night to keep out rats, mice, and baboons. We zipped our cabin completely, and even locked the zipper shut. However, THE STAFF DID NOT MENTION TO PROPERLY SECURE THE VELCRO OUTSIDE THE ZIPPER FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. We accidentally left about an inch of velcro which wasn't secured. A rat slipped through this space and ate holes in our bags.
As long as your tent is tightly secure with zipper and velcro (and also I recommend leaving your snacks in the car with the driver), then Primate Lodge Kibale is an excellent place to stay for chimpanzee trekking.More
