“Going to Suffolk? Do yourself a favour and stay here!”
Reviewed August 7, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Simply wonderful. A beautiful house, sympathetically restored with a huge amount of space! You get a large entrance hall, a lovely sitting room with a baby grand piano, a large bathroom with oak paneling, a walk in shower and a Victorian style roll top bath and a massive bedroom with a 4 poster. Oh, and a lovely, secluded private garden. Not bad eh?

Add to all that a charming host (Mark) who is friendly and helpful but not in your face. And he cooks you a fantastic breakfast.

Ideally situated to explore Bury St Edmunds (6 minutes on the train) or the wider delights of Suffolk.

Negatives? Well, if you have mobility issues, the steep stairs might be a challenge... and, if you want squeaky-bright-new modern box hotels and don't like old properties (with creaking floorboards etc) then this might not be for you. But then you'll be missing out.

We will definitely come here again. Simply heavenly.

“A great base to visit Suffolk and a wonderful, knowledgeable host”
Reviewed June 7, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

This was a great place to stay. The lounge room is a great place to relax in the evenings by the fire. Mark cooks the best breakfasts to get you started. This is a great place for a couple to stay and have a quiet relaxing time. We will definitely be coming back.

“Wonderful relaxing weekend in Suffolk”
Reviewed May 11, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Spent a glorious bank holiday weekend in Thurston in April/May.

Very generous and grand space, with huge sitting room with a wonderful wood burning stove, a massive bedroom with the best 150 year old shutters and a grand four poster. The large oak paneled bathroom it quite something. Whose doesn't need oak paneling in their bathroom after all.

We didn't have a car and Thurston Lodge was ideal for that. Only 5 mins easy walk from the train station, and great walks from 45 mins to 4 hour walks from the front door. We had a lovely trip into Bury St Edmunds by train for a day of wondering around. Mark also kindly lent us his bikes so we pottered off to visit a fascinating church and a great couple of pubs.

Mark was an incredible host and kind to a fault. There are the much mentioned cooked breakfast - is all true. And he offered to drop us at the station with our bags and then ended up coming back twice with various items we had forgotten/left. A star.

Would whole hardheartedly recommend.

“Fabulous weekend in fascinating house”
Reviewed February 22, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Just returned from a superb weekend away at this beautiful Georgian house. The rooms are wonderful - warm, spacious and comfortable, and full of period style and atmosphere.
Mark was the perfect host - helpful and attentive, but not intrusive, and spoiled us with lovely cooked breakfasts.
It was an absolute delight to stay here.

“Splendid house and lovely host”
Reviewed December 15, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

My partner and I had a beautiful, relaxing weekend at Mark's home. The living room, bedroom and bathroom are incredibly spacious and comfortable. We made the most out of our stay by borrowing our host's bikes and cycling to nearby towns and vineyards. Mark is such a great host - thank you!

“A Great English Retreat”
Reviewed November 29, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

It has a a lovely garden with a gated driveway, so you know your car is safe, It is furnished with nice Georgian furniture to complement the building, Mark greets you on your arrival and shows you around the rooms, He also has a good knowledge of the area. If you want to venture around Suffolk, It is only a five minute walk from the Train Station.
The log fire in the living room adds to the experience. This was our second time of staying in the house, and we are looking forward to going back there.
I really can't recommend staying here enough.

“Beautiful and quintessentially english country retreat, with great host”
Reviewed November 24, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Fantastic experience!
Mark was so amicable and ensured our stay was great one. Will certainly be recommending to others.
A great country retreat, in a beautiful setting. It was like stepping back in time.
The entrance to the house will have you in awe. If you like history or period dramas, you will love this.
A good way to relax and unwind away from a busy work life style.
Bury St Edmunds town centre not far and there are some nice local pubs, I recommend the Fox and Hound which is a 5 minute or so walk, it has good ratings.
Will stay there again.
