Great value

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 4, 2013
Big clean rooms right on the beach, very fair price, and the best breakfast we had in 6 weeks traveling Turkey. We had our laundry done and a pair of pants was destroyed, but Ahmet was very fair and paid us back the full value. Others we spoke to searched the beach before finding Hantur and declared it easily the best hotel and best value in Kizkalesi.

If you are looking for a 5 star hotel, this is not the place! However, there was everything we needed in order for us to have an inexpensive stay right on the beach.
Our room, #401, was on the top floor facing the water. We had a nice sized balcony as well. There were a lot of windows and the room had A/C. The furnishings were sparse but sufficient-ish, and there is no elevator.
The best features were the location and the service. I think this hotel is the closest to the water. Beach chairs and umbrellas are provided by a vendor on the beach, and covered in the cost of your room. Very nice!
The sweet owner, made every effort to make our stay pleasant. Including having my husband's clothes washed for him (and hung up to dry on the roof of the hotel: we could see them while we were out swimming!), sending us to a most wonderful fish restaurant in the next town, and having someone run out late at night to pick up medicine for me once he saw that I was sunburned.
As wel left, we felt like we were special guests saying goodbye, although we had only been there a few days.
If you want to get off the beaten path and have a real Turkish holiday, I suggest you give this spot a try.

Room tip: 401 is the top floor with a lovely view of Maiden's Castle as well as up and down the costline.

We made four 10-day trips around Turkey in the past year, and Hotel Hantur (in lovely Kizkalesi) was the most relaxing place we stayed. The Hotel is right on the beach, directly across from the Maiden's Castle. Our room, 101, had large windows and a private balcony facing the great castle view. With the sea breeze blowing through the sheer curtains, we were tempted to spend our four-day stay dozing in this sweet hotel. The town itself is laid back, much less aggressive to tourists than other places we've visited on the Mediterranean. It feels like the majority of folks coming here are Turkish. The warm owner speaks Turkish and German, with enough English (in person) to easily communicate. By email, writing in English can be a little tricky, but it wasn't a big deal, and certainly well worth any effort. This place is so great, and so cheap, we started calculating the monthly price. Lot and lots of stuff to see in the area, especially if you have a car. Driving is easy around here. We saw three very different caves (Heaven, Hell and the beautiful Asthma Cave.) Also took a drive through mountain villages and saw many ruins (Adamkayalar, Uzuncaburc, fantastic Olba) The hotel owner recommended seeing Kalidivane, just down the road (toward Mersin & Adana) and it is a wonderfully intact ruined city that is easy to explore. Down the road the other way, and very close, are the great fish restaurants of Narlikuyu. We had a very memorable feast at Kerim. There are also great casual places in town, with the best kebap places close to the main road, and the some better views but less delicious meals at places right on the sea. Music does come from either side of the Hotel at night, but Hotel Hantur itself is quiet, and we didn't find the neighboring music to be disturbing. We loved swimming out to the Maiden's Castle and snorkeling around it. Snorkeling was even better around the adjacent Korykos Castle. All these activities were made easy by the Hotel's prime location. The Hotel beach chairs and umbrellas were set up early each morning on the sandy beach (a welcome change from all the pebble beaches.) Rooms are cleaned every other day, and then the cleaning is perfect with all the linens changed. The room felt very private. The bed was very comfortable. The bath didn't have a separate shower stall, but it did have a lowered shower floor so that the water didn't go everywhere, and the room was large enough to make this arrangement comfortable. There are extra chairs in the room and on the balcony, and a small writing desk. Air conditioning worked very well. We LOVED Hotel Hantur. Wish we were there right now.

Room tip: Room 101, only one flight up and has a GREAT view

If you can get room 101-201-301 or 401 you have the best hotel.

Friendly owner, not too much English.

Room is great, a big bed and a small bad and spacious enough.

Standard, ok breakfast.

Beautiful view from your hotelroom and two (!) balconies.

We paid 60 TL per night. A good price as similar or less hotels asked 90 TL.

Room tip: Ask for 101-201-301-401

Given the price you are paying, the location, the friendliness of the staff and that the owner has a bit of English and German, the stay was excellent. This was our real first R&R stop after over three weeks of driving through Turkey sight seeing. Our room had a direct view over Maiden’s Castle, AC, there was some noise from the street , but you would get this in ALL hotels along the strip. There is great food a Bus stop kebap stop ( with a view )and also on the other side of the pier has some quiet and lovely restaurants’. All are in walking distance of the Hotel, the Hotel provide umbrellas and banana lounges.

This hotel was a great deal. It was inexpensive, and was off the beach. You could see the Maiden's castle from our window (though not all rooms have the same view). The bathroom did not have a shower curtain and was a slight dip into the floor with a drainage hole. The room was simple, but the location was GREAT and the man who owns the hotel is a congenial man who really cares about his guests and property. He speaks English. The breakfast was good (with view of castle) and they even had a baby highchair. The hotel also owns lounge chairs and sun umbrellas you can use. Oh, there is noise from the disco band down the street so bring earplugs if you need to.
