“First day of Spring in Whitehorse”

Once again we had a fabulous stay at Sundog. Fuzzy Crocus was full so we took the larger Fireweed Cabin for just two of us. Fireweed would be perfect for 2 couples or family of 4-6. Clean, bright, well-stocked kitchen supplies, strong heat source. Hot tub and sauna and shower building are excellent amenities, and not used that much by other guests so we soaked morning and night. Quiet, unlimited views. Town is only 20 minute drive. Staff helpful and friendly. All in all a perfect romantic getaway.

A friend of mine and I drove from Haines, AK, to have a night under the Aurora, or at least enjoy the crispy, snowy winter with our Canadian neighbors. The accommodation was just perfect--a sweet, small kitchen with just the amenities we needed; a basket of breakfast items; living room with comfy futon; and the bed in the back room was aimed perfectly for a view of the field lined with aspens and the Northern Lights "show" at about 2:35 a.m. Yukon time. Our space was private and really quiet. We enjoyed the hot tub before bedtime, a 7-minute walk from Fuzzy Crocus, perfect temperature for the -20 C evening stargazing. Changing arrangements, shower, and tub a few steps from the building, were just right. We had a short ski in the open field right outside our cottage, with two white-tail deer browsing at the edge of the woods. The most generous gift was our proprietor, Andrew, helping us get our truck started the next day. We hadn't prepared the truck for the cold and the battery was stubborn. Andrew stuck with us for over an hour, offering a jump, tools, scraps of metal, and, finally, gasoline de-icer. Overall, this experience felt like a friend had shared a cabin with us. I will definitely spread the word to my neighbors to take advantage of this great change-of-scene for winter. You should try it, too!

Room Tip: Fuzzy Crocus is right on the edge of the field, but with such a secluded loop, I can imagine that al...

Just recently returned from a three night stay in the Fuzzy Crocus cabin at Sundog Retreat. The plan was to hopefully view the Northern Lights. We succeeded. Each night the Lights became progressively better as we watched from our bedroom window. And just as importantly we would have enjoyed Sundog without the Lights. The cabin, location, and the great hospitality of the owners (Heather & Andrew) made our stay better than imagined. Heather & Andrew are people you would hope to be friends with in your home town. Heather's recommendations for flights, car rentals, and things do to were excellent. Would gladly go again anytime of year.
We hadn't used Trip Advisor before, but the reviews we read definitely led us to a great experience at Sundog.

Room Tip: All the cabins seems well situated and not on top of one another. The Fuzzy Crocus was perfect for...

The accomodations were perfect. The staff was hospitable and we really felt at home and relaxed on our stay. My daughter had the best 12th birthday ever here, enjoying the hottub, sauna, fitness room and games room. Sundog Retreat was the best choice for our little celebration. When we returned home we were relaxed and recharged from our time away without the bogged down road trip feeling because it was only 25 minutes from home!! I highly recommend this spot for a getaway!!

Room Tip: we stayed in the Raven's Nest located right above the sauna, games room and hot tub. Fully equip...

We have stayed at Sundog Retreat several times, most recently in July 2012, and expect to be back this summer. The favourable reviews on this site are well-deserved.

Sundog is a wonderful place for a peaceful and private holiday, only 20 minutes from Whitehorse. The cabins are well-spaced over the 100-acre property, with views of nearby mountains. The cabins are comfortable and very clean and have plenty of room, with modern kitchens and baths. The owners are extraordinarily thoughtful about their guests while respecting your privacy.

With Sundog as our base, we have seen much of the Yukon, which is a remarkably beautiful part of the country. The long summer days lend themselves to long hikes and scenic drives. We found the highway from Whitehorse to the Alaska boundary to be more scenic than Denali National Park in Alaska, and much more easily accessible.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Fuzzy Crocus. The kitchen was well equipped (with a nice gift basket, even) huge picture windows and the perfect amount of remoteness. I cooked meals for most of my two week stay, just because it was pleasant and relaxing (and there are decent grocery suppliers in town). I loved watching the light change on the snow from the enormous windows and left the one at the foot of my bed open when I went to sleep so I could take in the blues of early morning first thing when I woke up. One night, after watching a lovely aurora show outside until we were tired, my husband and I went back in our cabin, crawled into our cozy bed and watched the lights dance in the distance as we drifted off to sleep. Perfect! Couldn't ask for a better place to stay or nicer people to deal with.

Room Tip: The Fuzzy Crocus has the best views east toward the mountains and is relatively isolated from the ot...

We stayed at Panorama for four nights which was ideal for the chance of aurora sighting and experiencing living in what is a very alien environment to us ( we live in the sub-tropics) . Fortunately we struck good weather and mild temps by Yukon standards. We got to see the aurora two of the nights which was great. The best spot was by the fire pit with a log fire keeping our backs warm. By staying out of town you don't have to take expensive trips to see the aurora - just pop outside. The Sundog location is also good for Takhini area activities. Heather and Andrew are excellent hosts and attentive to your needs.
My only quibbles were that the wi-fi was some distance away in the sun room and the ancient septic system was questionable but all in all we had a very good experience at Sundog and heartily recommend it.
For aurora info see my 'Aurora Borealis and Northern Lights (NL) reality check' in the Yukon forum.
