In 2013, the SS Klondike is open to the public at no charge for self-guided tours. A brochure points out the main points on the ship, and a Parks Canada staff member comes on board to answer questions when time allows. Formal tours are available by booking ahead with a private contractor.

My wife and I enjoyed the S.S. Klondike. Due to budget cuts, the Canadian Park Service provided a pamphlet for a self-guided walking tour of the vessel. We really enjoyed taking a step back into history aboard the Klondike. The pamphlet was good, and the vessel is in great shape. The Klondike is a must see stop in Whitehorse; these river boats are an important part of Yukon history.

This national historical site is a gem located in downtown Whitehorse. The National Parks employees are extremely knowledgable and provide a great tour and plenty of insight into the Yukon's past.
Well worth your time and an excellent value for a piece of history.

Have you ever seen a boat that could change the shape of its hull, walk itself forward off a shoal, and draw only a couple of feet of water while transporting many tons of goods against the river current, all fueled with wood? This is the most amazing feat of engineering and a glimpse into thwe history of settlement of the Yukon. It is my number one "must do" for visitors to Whitehorse. Parks Canada funding has been cut so badly that tours may not be operating in 2013. If not that will be a real shame, as this surviving example of a once-numerous fleet is our crown jewel.
