Description: We are proud to be the only one AUTHENTIC MEXICAN restaurant in Saskatoon. Moreover our food is made from scratch with original recipes and with your health in mind. Now with two locations, the one in Boychuck features ethnic food from the Central part of Mexico and the one in Primrose Drive with Northern Style meals.

The only way you'd get more authentic Mexican food would be to go to Mexico, make a friend and get invited to her Grandmother's for Dinner. The menu is not very big but has something for most tastes including vegetarian. All the entrees are served with rice and beans. Tortillas chips with fresh made salsas are complimentary. The staff is friendly and efficient but the place is always busy make reservations or be prepared to wait. My only complaint is the location in a strip mall and the wait but if you want real Mexican home cooking it's worth 15 - 20 minutes. If you want Tex-Mex or "fancy" Mexican maybe not but absolutely worth a try.

We dropped by La Bamba based largely on the high ratings it received on line. What we had was a very standard, unremarkable but decent meal. The restaurant is small, crowded and busy -- with a sizable young adult crowd. The food was okay, but nothing more than that. Substantial portion, quickly prepared (we got our entree within five minutes of ordering it). One of our meals was incorrect, but they replaced it -- again, in lightening fast speed (less than 2 minutes) -- which speaks to the nature of the restaurant. This is Mexican fast food! I ordered the "Hot" dish -- but it was mild by any normal standard for Mexican food. The staff were polite and attentive -- no worries there. But this is far from a fine dining establishment and is not in the top four Mexican or Latin American restaurants in the city. I am really puzzled to see all of the high ratings, as this decent little Mexican food stop is not in the big leagues.

We were at this establishment around 7 p.m. last Friday night. It is a small and simple place that we have enjoyed in the past. There wasn't a table for us, but we were assured that if we waited ten minutes, we would be seated and served. The wait staff were very attentive and we were seated within ten minutes. Although La Bamba had been a second choice for us that evening (we had a gift card for The Keg), we knew we wouldn't be dissappointed and would go away well satisfied. The portions were almost perfect. The food tasted delicious. The wait staff never forgot to check on us. We shared an enchilada plate that had mini tortillas with strips of beef, onion, guacamole on the side, refried beans and rice. Amazing taste. We wanted more with no room in our stomachs. The appetizer basket (free) of crisp tortillas and salsa was great. I tried the Jarito soda and thoroughly enjoyed it and asked where I could purchase it. I was assured that I could buy from them any time. So make it a Latin night for you and your friends and visit La Bamba in Saskatoon.

To say that La Bamba is unpretentious is probably a bit light, its a small intimate cafe with incredibly friendly staff and servers. The menu is limited to real Mexican meals which are all very tasty. A few little salsas and hot peppers on the side and its just terrific. Great place, great food, great value.
