“2nd time I have walked away without being served”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

Called ahead to see if closing time (11pm) was when we should be gone because the doors were locked or, is that when the last seating was. Was informed that we could stay a little after 11pm. Just had finished dinner at another establishment and wanted to have dessert at a different place. Entered Calories at 20 minutes to 11 (as indicated by the clock on their wall). Upon entering, we are told that it is take away only. Since this is a second time dissapointment, we just left, again. Probably could have pounded down dessert in 20 minutes, but closed at 11 is closed at 11, right?

“Not what it once was”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

This is a long time upper end eatery on Saskatoon's Broadway Ave.
Our last couple of trips have been a little disappointing. The menu while innovative is increasingly limited. Portion sizes are also on the small side even for a moderate appetite .
On this occasion my wife's seafood pasta has a distinct "fishy" taste beyond what you would expect. My tagine was tasty but the portion size would have been small even for an appetizer.
With more "high end" restaurants opening every week in this growing market it's time for Calories to up it's game.
All in all the service is excellent and the food is good but the city has many just as good or better.
Time to acknowledge not the only game in town anymore.

“Consistently good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

Interesting innovative food for the hungry man as well as the picky small eater.
I had the feature sandwich and soup today - a divine trout bisque. Finished off with a ginger based, rum and raisin topped cheesecake. Definitely worth every calorie consumed!
Also, I needed a hostess gift, our waitress packed a lovely selection of divine scones, wild rice bread, croissants and biscotti in a beautiful box. A winner.
Being open on a Sunday is also a big bonus!

“Very nice lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2012

A friend and I went for lunch on a Saturday to Calories. We wanted to have a relaxing lunch and get caught up and the restaurant was exactly that. Lunch was awesome. I had a brie, grapes and pesto sandwich on one of the best baguettes ever. We had dessert, it was a difficult decision as it all looked good. I went lighter and had a lemon angel food cake it was not all that light with frosting and almonds but very good.
Our server was attentive but not too much as he realized we wanted to chat. Value was very good for the food quality and portion size. I would definitely go back.

“Local Fare with Flair”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

This restaurant offers a limited menu, but the choices don't disappoint. The restaurant uses food from local suppliers whenever possible. Unique and flavorful combinations result in a meal you won't soon forget. Calories started as a dessert cafe so leave some room for the amazing treats to cap off your meal. Great for unique soups & sandwiches at lunch. I had the seafood pasta and they actually cooked the scallops just right! Make a reservation as it is an intimate spot. Not much choice for kids, but they try.
