“Lyd's”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Want a place to go and listen to some good bands? Lydia's always has a very good band playing on the weekends. I've seen quite a few very impressive bands here! Do you like Pool? Lyd's has a whole section of pool tables in the downstairs level! Many a nights spent at Lyd's on their patio meeting and greeting a variety of people! For those that enjoy the dance/ hip hop scene, sorry, you won't find this at Lydia's!

“Tonight it's Poetry”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Lydia's is a pub in lovely landmark building in Saskatoon. It has two large areas for gathering on the main floor and a pub/pool hall downstairs. The upstairs is divided in to two sections and the most popular section is where the bar is. This is where the action is in terms of entertainment and my favourite draw - Slam Poetry sundays - called "Tonight It's Poetry". The small stage then features some of the best slam and spoken word poets in Saskatoon, western Canada, and nationally. The small space is standing room only on Sundays. Empty, the pub is not much to look at. The furnishings are worn and makeshift. Old church pews serve as seating on one side of the room. Tables and chairs from the other side of the pub are brought in on poetry nights. The food is standard pub fare. Nachos, burgers and fries, chicken strips and fries, and the like. Surprisingly, it's pretty tasty. The wine selection is terrible. One choice of house white and one of red. The beer selection is much better. Lydia's is a pub-crawler's pub. It has its own charm and if you are going there for a specific entertainment event, you won't be disappointed. If you go there for slam or spoken word poetry and a snack and beer, get there early and be prepared to have a blast. The sense of community is awesome and the imperative is have fun and enjoy the poetry.

Wouldn't say this was the most friendly place I've visited, meal was good although service was a bit sloppy.
