The only this this hotel has going for them is their lake front location. The room we were in was horribly small. Smaller than a fish bowl it seemed. The mattress was horrible, the musty smell, it looked as if it had been decorated by furniture that the Salvation Army rejected, and there were a few dead bugs in the room. There was long dark hair all over the bathroom floor and the toilet seat was up, and it was not cleaned from the last guest in the room, you could tell. The comforter looked about a hundred years old, and the rug smelled like pee. The rug was so dirty that I would NOT walk bare feet at anytime on it. With past experiences we always looked forward to eating in the dining room. But this time the food was something that my 6 year old could do a better job at. Of all the restaurant that I have eaten at, this is the worst experience by far. I told the waitress that my food was undercooked (chicken) and her very rude response was “look, the Chef does know what he’s doing, he wouldn’t serve under-cooked chicken”. I pointed out that the middle of my chicken was still frozen. She wouldn’t take it back to the kitchen. When we checked out I was telling the front desk clerk about everything, and her response was “ well that IS unfortunate, but there really isn’t anything I can do for you at this point, have a nice day”. Very uncaring and rude staff. I remember when the Hawood was “THE” hotel. But now it has gone so far down in the dumps, it’s actually sad.

Had a great stay at the Hawood. Very clean and comfortable and the staff was great. Had a couple of meals at the restaurant, both were excellant. We were quite impressed overall for our first overnight visit to the resort.

I was not impressed at all with this hotel. The rooms were dark and the furniture is old and worn. The beds were horribly uncomfortable and the rooms were not cleaned properly, dust everywhere like it hadn't been cleaned in months. We paid $129 a night for a room with 3 "fuzzy" channels on a 13" TV. If you want a first class stay go to the hotel behind the Post office, very clean and first class service. We stayed at the hawood 2 out of our 5 original nights then we just had to find something else. I stayed there many years back and it sure has gone down hill since then

Don't expect luxury but do expect a clean and comfortable room. Have stayed at the Hawood three times over the past five years. It has a lovely location but plan to pay premium for a lakefront room (other rooms face an alley and laundromat). Rooms and amenities are average for a decent two star hotel. The attached restaurant is reasonable but not outstanding.

On the roof are/were two hot tubs along with tables/seats and propane night time heating. The staff are/were pretty laid back about the top deck. BYOB

The hotel represents decent value in comparison to the prices and amenities of nearby properties. We'll likely be back sometime soon.

Advertised as a four star lake front "resort", this property lacked many amenities, multiple inconviences and poor service. Our room decor was drab and lifeless. The smoke detector was missing. Patio door didn't lock (we were main floor). Bathroom sink barely drained. Shower head barely shot out water. We had a main floor room when we checked in and had to move halfway through our stay to an upstairs room (which had nothing even to do with the unlocking door). we were told we had to move when we checked in. We had to lug all of our heavy luggage up stairs because they had no elevator. They were the one's moving us and yet we had to move all of our luggage, when we asked for assistanct they said no one was available (11 in the morning and nobody is available??) We were there with my wife's parents and her grandmother (who is in a wheelchair). She was only limited to two possible rooms, and she could not visit us upstairs and when we wanted to enjoy the roof top patio and enjoy the hot tubs, she couldn't at least come up to the roof top for a visit, because they are not wheelchair friendly in anyway. We will find another place to stay next time we are in Waskesiu for a family gathering. The other family members stayed in cabins down the alley way from the Hawood and had a VERY enjoyable stay.

We booked a room at the Hawood Inn at the recomendation my family from Saskatchewan. We travelled there for a family reunion weekend. We had always believed that this particular hotel was a very "ritzy" Lodge from all the good things we had heard about it in the past. We booked a room for a weekend in August 2004, back in april 2004. We said that we wanted a lake front room. I was told that with a "credit card guarantee" we would for sure get a lake front room. We booked a room with two double beds. When we got there in august, The front desk clerk acted like it was a big inconvience that they actually had to get up from the chair to help us. This was 5:30pm and when we checked in the clerk said that they had to "modify" our reservation to a room with one double bed. WHAT! We have two small daughters and they are giving us a room with one bed. we were there for 4 nights and they said that on the last night we could move to a room with two beds. So I asked for a cot at least for the night and the clerk said they don't have cots. luckily we had sleeping bags then the girls slept in them. When we went to the room it was the smallest room I had ever seen, and it faced the alley, not the lake. The room was so small even one person couldn't stay comfortably in there. The coffee pot was used and the garbage was full, but the bathroom was clean. When I pulled the sheets back to get into bed there was hair all over the sheets. I phoned the front desk and they said that they would bring a clean set of sheets because there was no other room to put us in. The whole room was "old" and "unclean". It was right beside the stairwell so we had no sleep all night. People were running up and down all night. A couple of days later I went to do laundry in the hotel, and I walked by a room and I couldn't believe it but I saw a cot in a room. So I asked the housekeeper if they have anymore cots available, and she said yes. our room was so small anyway that it would be cramped but I didn't want my girls to sleep on the floor anymore. I went down to the front desk to ask why we were lied to about the cot, and the lady at the desk said "oh no, you must be mistaken the desk clerk most definitely would have offered you a cot, so I tried to correct her, and then she said that they would have one delivered to the room. When I went to check out and pay the bill, They charged me the rate I was quoted for a room with TWO double beds. then for a cot at $20 a night extra. But I had a single bed room so the rate should have been a single rate, or at least the double rate, and not be charged for the cot. No arguing with that hotel, the rule of the customer is always right does not apply there. We were so dissattified we will never return. I have stayed in many hotels travelling, and that by far was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at.
