The only this this hotel has going for them is their lake front location. The room we were in was horribly small. Smaller than a fish bowl it seemed. The mattress was horrible, the musty smell, it looked as if it had been decorated by furniture that the Salvation Army rejected, and there were a few dead bugs in the room. There was long dark hair all over the bathroom floor and the toilet seat was up, and it was not cleaned from the last guest in the room, you could tell. The comforter looked about a hundred years old, and the rug smelled like pee. The rug was so dirty that I would NOT walk bare feet at anytime on it. With past experiences we always looked forward to eating in the dining room. But this time the food was something that my 6 year old could do a better job at. Of all the restaurant that I have eaten at, this is the worst experience by far. I told the waitress that my food was undercooked (chicken) and her very rude response was “look, the Chef does know what he’s doing, he wouldn’t serve under-cooked chicken”. I pointed out that the middle of my chicken was still frozen. She wouldn’t take it back to the kitchen. When we checked out I was telling the front desk clerk about everything, and her response was “ well that IS unfortunate, but there really isn’t anything I can do for you at this point, have a nice day”. Very uncaring and rude staff. I remember when the Hawood was “THE” hotel. But now it has gone so far down in the dumps, it’s actually sad.
