“Nice, but not really worth the expense”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2011

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite, which was roomy, but needs some fixing. The mattress was new, but had a memory foam on top that was too soft for my husband and I who have bad backs. The quilt on top was frayed and just looked like it had been through too many washes. The room seemed clean, however there was a cheezie and a quarter under the pillow on the chair. The spa tub in the room was very nice. The worst part was the sound outside the door in the hallway. The room is right by the condos and people were going in and out all night and it was very loud. Once they were in the condo, you couldn't hear them though. My parents stayed in a regular lake front room that had 2 double beds. They liked the room, but it was nothing special. The beds were quite hard. We might go back during the low season when the rates are lower. Staff was very friendly. Restaurant was great with excellent service.

We got married 5 years ago at the Hawood Inn, we were impressed. We have been back two times since and still loved it. The food has always been great. Rooms were clean and service has always been good. We always enjoy the hot tubs. I have nothing negative to say about the Hawood Inn. We will go back without a doubt.

The hotel is getting run down and dated looking. Cleanliness was "fair" but not up to standards for the money you are paying. Hot tub was luke warm to say the least. We had the same problem last time we stayed at this hotel. You should not be cold while sitting in a hot tub. Cancellation policy is far to rigid with 7 days advance notice even in prime time. There are lots of other places to stay and we will be staying elsewhere.

We were surprised when we opened the door to the room, it was very empty and looked nothing like the pictures on the website. A tiny tv on a small dresser with a tall skinny mirror behind it, a tiny desk and a bedside table that looked like they had come from the salvation army. Not the rustic log home inspired furniture we had expected. We asked to see other rooms and the staff seemed surprised and insulted when we asked and especially when we turned down the "executive" room which was the same as ours but $30 more for 2 double beds and a small fridge. We said that they didn't look like the rooms on their site and we were told that we must have been looking at the wrong website. The cross country ski equipment was old and there was a VERY small selection. Service and food in the restaurant was great, we ate all our meals there as it was the only place open. The hot tubs on the roof.... one wasn't working and the other wasn't working very well. It was 98 F when we got in and quickly dropped to 94 F (lukewarm) with the lid off and we had to get out as we were getting too cold. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, or at least advise them to lower their expectations of the hotel side of the building.

We stayed at the "Hawood Inn" July long weekend and thankfully was only for two nights. The room was on the main floor, it was small, old, and although you could not hear the outside noise- upstairs it was like a herd of elephants-so noisy you couldn't watch the tiny tv that was in the room. As soon as we entered the room in the afternoon when we heard the noise-and I don't mean that you could hear just people walking upstairs-(this was a continious loud booming echoing running jumping noise) and I asked her if we were above a pool or the hot tub and she said no- there was a room upstairs-and there were kids in there. We asked to be moved somewhere else, but she said there were no other rooms available. The desk clerk didn't seem interested in anything but sitting in her chair- wasn't very helpful but did mention that "quiet time" was at 11 pm. So we had to listen to the noise upstairs until then - which she said she could call to tell them to quiet down. Of course it did continue right up to 11 pm and then it became quiet. Glad there was air in the room as you couldn't open the crack in the small window- as the partyers walking around hooting and hollering were out all hours of the night.
We travel alot and have stayed in many hotels and the chain hotels were alot quieter and spacious than this "supposedly 4-star overpriced resort"
Outside was whole other matter, getting up early in the morning and going for a walk- you see all the damage the kids do the night before. Its party town and there was beer bottles- and I mean hundreds and hundreds of beer bottles and cans, flowers pulled out of pots, and signs knocked out of the ground. It does get cleaned up though.
All in all- Waskesiu is beautiful but I would never go back. I was packed early and couldn't wait to get out of there.

I stayed at The Hawood Inn in July for a vacation with my family. We stayed in one of their rooms with the view of the lake. It was a basic, clean room, perfect for at the lake. The staff was pleasant and accomodating upon arrival. My children and I ate all of our meals in the restaurant, which were delicious! I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Prince Albert National Park!

  • Liked — I loved the food in the restaurant & the friendly staff.
  • Disliked — Parking was a bit difficult to find as PANP was busy that weekend!
  • Tips/Secrets — Bring lots of sunscreen & enjoy the beach!
