We have been heading out to Vibank especially to see Kevin and Cecilia's wonderful restaurant for 3 years and we enjoy both the set Mexican Friday nights and the Saturday night BBQ.

Superb.

Some of the best BBQ in the area, and the Mexican night makes me salivate just typing it. I would prefer to keep it a secret to always get a table but after CJ Katz wrote of their delectable food in the LeaderPost that is impossible besides I would be even sadder to see it close.

Book early, like at least 2 months before you want to go.

Knowing that Cecila was taking bookings for Mexican night well into February of 2014, we had to be content with a September lunch.....and we were more than content.
Cecilia has a daily lunch special that is authentically Mexican and if you are a party of less than 10 people, you can enjoy a great meal in a superb atmosphere.
Pictures of old Oxacan markets and "la Catredral " are mixed with black and white photos of weddings in Vibank on the walls, so enjoy while you wait for your order.
Our lunch was a chicken, lettuce, black bean, and salsa torta accompanied by potato soup. Absolutely delicious and more than we could finish!
Husband Kevin Zimmerman cooks other succulent dinners in addition to Cecelia's Mexican night and bookings for his evening B-B-Q's and other menu items require bookings well into October at the time of this writing (August 2013).
We will be returning whenever possible, you can be sure!

I went there last Friday with my boyfriends family and a few other couples. We went for their Friday Mexican night. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. However, it wasn't until about 20 minutes until they took our drink order. It was over an hour before we saw any food at all. They brought us some chips and salsa but never refilled or asked if we wanted more. about a half hour later we were finally brought some soup. It was a beef-barly type soup, extremely delicious and flavourful. We waited about another thirty minutes before our meals were served. There was quite a few items: corn with a warm sauce, cilantro salad, chicken tamale, pork empanada and chicken with a spicy sauce over it. They told us that they would bring out a jug of water (which was necessary since some items were spicy!), but they forgot. So we asked again and they brought it out. It wasn't refilled until we asked again to get some more. At the end, we were served a moist cake with a piece of dragon fruit. It was delicious!

Overall, the food was quite good, but the service was quite poor. We paid $40 for our meal and I don't feel we got our money's worth, especially since we drove from Regina specifically for the meal. I probably wouldn't go back on a Friday, however, I would be interested in trying their barbecue on Saturday.

This was our second visit to The Grotto, the first being for the best Mexican Cuisine this side of the Zona Romantica in P.V.
BBQ night platter for 2 this night was BBQ pulled pork, BBQ brisket, BBQ pork ribs, BBQ beef ribs, BBQ 1/2 chicken Fantastic homemade cornbread, homemade BBQ beans , homemade potato saled and a veggie salad and dill pickles.
We are not big eaters so needless to say doggie bags were the order of the evening. Everything was tasty from the Hibiscus cocktails to the tiramisu.
A word to the wise, BOOK EARLY!!, we booked for Mexican night and the earliest date available was April 26.

Our group of 10 had to book a few months in advance in order to experience The Grotto's authentic Mexican food on the prairies. We'd heard really good things about this restaurant and were not disappointed! There's a Mexican meal every Friday evening, and Saturdays they do a BBQ which also sounds really good.
Since we had a large group, we were seated in one of the private rooms. Unfortunately there were no grasshoppers on the evening's menu for us to sample, however there were a lot of other authentic items to keep our tastebuds happy and our bellies full. Everything was so tasty and the presentation was great. The helpings were very generous and there were several in our party, myself included, that were unable to finish everything.
Cecilia came by several times to check on us and she is such a warm and wonderful person. She puts a lot of thought into each week's menu, and it takes them several days to prepare everything that will be served for Friday's meal. She mentioned that she is writing a cookbook that should be available in 2013, so we are all going to keep our eyes open for that.
Overall it was a wonderful evening; it's about a 30 minute drive from Regina so it was great to head out with a larger group of friends for a deliciously different meal experience. Book well in advance as they are quite a popular dining destination!
