We stayed one night. The room was very clean. The shower was spacious. The hard surface flooring was spotless. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the stay and will be back again as this is a trip we make yearly.

There are a few reasons I only rated this average. I'm barely bilingual, English is my native and I have slowly been learning French over the last couple of years. I can read French pretty well but have trouble speaking anything more than basic conversational. I do my best when in Quebec or France and fully understand that the language barrier is on I, not on anyone up there.

The man at the front desk was pretty pleasant. We both spoke a mix of English and French to communicate and things were going just dandy until it came time to pay for my room. I explained and he seemed to understand that my card was an American DEBIT card and did not have the chip inside like most other cards worldwide. This was fine and he slid the card but it kept declining. I figured it was just a fluke as I had checked my balance while in the lobby to show him that it had plenty of cash (via my bank app). I offered to go to an ATM to withdraw Canadian currency. He told me there were no working ATMs anywhere near there...? About 30 minutes of back and forth trying to figure it out and 20 declined receipts, something clicked and he said "voilà!" And it magically worked. Never figured out what he did, as I had watched him type everything on the machine and could basically do it myself at that point. This is NOT a diss on the hotel or the staff at all and not being reflected in my review rating. Just wanted to explain for other English speaking Americans that do not have the more modern chip technology cards. And it was not wise on me not to have cash to cover the motel. I was charged an additional $20 as a deposit that was returned the next day, in cash, once I dropped off the key. I had never had to do that upon my travels but I do know some motels do that which is perfectly fine. He was very adamant on making sure I was quiet and not a partier and that I was not going to have other guests. He said he gave me one of the nicer rooms but I had to be very quiet. Little odd but hey, Americans aren't known to among the most respectable people.

Parking is a bit of a pain. There are two lots. One against a side road in front of a stretch of rooms. The second lot, where my room and parking spot was, is located through a tiny space off of Rue Bellefuille (the main road). Hard to describe it but it took me 5 minutes to even figure out it was there. The outside is pretty seedy looking and the motel is in a poorer part of town. Only an 8 minute walk or 3 minute drive to the main shopping and eating area of the city.

The room itself was of a good size, had a large bed, and some really strikingly nice accents. The bathroom was pretty modern and very clean. The only thing that I did not like was the horrid stench of stale cigarette smoke. It was an absolutely non smoking room but the odor was out of this world. As a cigarette smoker myself I normally do not notice lingering cigarette smoke but here it was the only think I could smell. I'm assuming I got a fluke and the person before me in there was a chain smoker and did not care about the rules as I had not read any issues with smells in other reviews. The room is very quiet and did not hear anything from the outside. Tv worked ok, wifi was off and on and I could not get a stable connection in my room from any device. Also very little light in the room which made it a bit hard for me to write after dark.

I would possibly stay here again but not sure I would highly recommend it. I would not say stay away though. The price was a bit steep for the room, but I'm sure it was higher as the previous day was Canada Day.

Easy access to the highway, as far from Toronto as we wanted to travel in one day, perfect for an enroute overnight stay. Clean and comfortable, very pleasant multilingual staff, microwave and mini fridge in room, but wi-fi only while sitting outside the room on balcony. Okay in good weather! Looked worn on the outside, tired part of town - but found great places to eat - see Coco Tango and Rotisserie Ti Coq. Gorgeous planters of flowers!

Poorer area, semi industrial and poor housing, east access from highway, rooms very clean and functional, TV ok,VERY poor wifi in the rooms, outside rooms handyman special building and repairs. Good price so stay if in late and out but for me the wifi is essential!
