We did the zodiac cruise to go see the whales. First of all, you must realize that the Dufour Zodiac is not your run of the mill small zodiac, it is more like a small boat so we felt very secure. We probably picked one of the worst days as it rained all night and only stopped when we left at 9h00 am through a very dense fog. Nevertheless the captain was able to bring us to spots where we saw whales. A humpback did dive about 100 meters from us and was nice enough to show us her fluke (got so awed I forgot to take a picture). We saw several other whales including a baby that decided to surface about 10 meters from the boat (evidently he/she did not know about the rules of boat not getting too close to whales) and that was great. Unfortunately we did not see any large blue whale but in that "soup", we were just happy to see whales. We also saw seals and "marsouins".

All in all, we were happy as the weather did not cooperate but we still got to see the whales.

Advice: Bathroom before you start, bring warm clothes including gloves (I wish I had known) and binoculars if you have any. They will provide you with full rain gear (pants and coats) so you will come back as dry as you left.

We drove from La Malbaie to Baie Ste-Catherine (about 45 minute drive) and took the large boat for our whale watching cruise. The boat had 3 levels, therefore lots of view points & 2 of the levels had indoor sections (great for a chilly day!), there were also washrooms & a small snack bar/coffee shop. Our guide was extremely informative & spoke for the entire trip both in english & french. We saw whales almost continuously throughout the cruise, belugas (although they were a bit too far too have a proper view), we also saw humpbacks 3 times (may have been the same whale) but still wonderful to have seen it dive with tail in the air on 3 occaisons! We also saw 3 blue whales or fin whales (not sure of the name but 2nd largest in the world) and we saw them also at least 3 different times during the cruise. We also saw a mink whale some seals.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience with a wonderful guide!

Went on a zodiac on a very windy day. Saw a humpback, minky whale and seals. Absolutely no commentary from the captain other than look left or right in French! Had to look up the different whales to. Figure out what we saw. Be prepared to get wet on rough waters. After taking off our rain gear, our crotches were soaked. Glad we took the shuttle! Wouldn't have been very comfortable walking back to the hotel.

Took one of the large boats for 3 hour whale watching and fjord tour. Grey rainy day so glad to have the cover and comfort. However, big Diesel engine so loud hard to hear the whales. Tour started 15 minutes late because we were waiting for 4 passengers and ended early with no fjord tour, will not book with dufour again
