This is an updated version of an old resort hotel, where they are trying to maintain nostalgia for the elegance of bygone times. The present hotel itself is a large 1940s wood structure, with an iconic red Empire-style roof, very much in the tradition of holiday hotels. It is well-marked and easy to find in the small village. There is lots of parking for guests. The landscaping is outstanding. There is a big central common room, well-lit, with an ongoing large jigsaw puzzle for rainy days. The front desk service was slow, both on check-in and check-out, and not particularly welcoming.
Our first-floor high-ceilinged room faced the river (ask for a river view, although ours was through a narrow window and over a fence), was larger than what we had on a previous trip, had a queen bed, and a ceiling fan - there is no air conditioning. The bathroom was quite small, without much room to put one’s toiletries, but it was well-equipped. In addition to a sofa bed, there was an armchair, plenty of hard chairs, and a good work desk. There were two stands on which to put suitcases. Lighting was quite good. Of course, there was WiFi access.
The highlight of Hotel Tadoussac is its restaurants. We chose buffet supper and breakfast included with our room. The supper buffet was outstanding, with a great variety of cold seafood dishes. Warm dishes were more limited - duck leg in wine sauce, char in a sauce, and a roast, with good accompanying vegetables. There was a good choice of desserts, and an exceptional choice of local cheeses. The wine list befits the grandeur of the hotel, but a number of wines are available by the glass, and the house wines are quite acceptable. Breakfast was also a good buffet, and again the cold choices were outstanding. There were also scrambled or boiled eggs or eggs prepared to order, good sausage, bacon, pancakes, home fries and beans - all anyone could desire.
Overall, this is a reliable hotel to make guests comfortable and well looked after.
