This is an updated version of an old resort hotel, where they are trying to maintain nostalgia for the elegance of bygone times. The present hotel itself is a large 1940s wood structure, with an iconic red Empire-style roof, very much in the tradition of holiday hotels. It is well-marked and easy to find in the small village. There is lots of parking for guests. The landscaping is outstanding. There is a big central common room, well-lit, with an ongoing large jigsaw puzzle for rainy days. The front desk service was slow, both on check-in and check-out, and not particularly welcoming.

Our first-floor high-ceilinged room faced the river (ask for a river view, although ours was through a narrow window and over a fence), was larger than what we had on a previous trip, had a queen bed, and a ceiling fan - there is no air conditioning. The bathroom was quite small, without much room to put one’s toiletries, but it was well-equipped. In addition to a sofa bed, there was an armchair, plenty of hard chairs, and a good work desk. There were two stands on which to put suitcases. Lighting was quite good. Of course, there was WiFi access.

The highlight of Hotel Tadoussac is its restaurants. We chose buffet supper and breakfast included with our room. The supper buffet was outstanding, with a great variety of cold seafood dishes. Warm dishes were more limited - duck leg in wine sauce, char in a sauce, and a roast, with good accompanying vegetables. There was a good choice of desserts, and an exceptional choice of local cheeses. The wine list befits the grandeur of the hotel, but a number of wines are available by the glass, and the house wines are quite acceptable. Breakfast was also a good buffet, and again the cold choices were outstanding. There were also scrambled or boiled eggs or eggs prepared to order, good sausage, bacon, pancakes, home fries and beans - all anyone could desire.

Overall, this is a reliable hotel to make guests comfortable and well looked after.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room.

We stayed at the Hotel tadoussac for two nights and enjoyed every minute of it. This hotel was built in the early 1940's and has a wonderful charm about it. It has well kept up grounds with a spectacular view overlooking Tadoussac Bay. They have at least 3 restaurants with spectacular food. The hotel doesn't come cheap but it is well worth the price.

The lobby can only be described as very "homey". It is huge with picture windows overlooking the bay. In the lobby are comfortable chairs and sofas arranged in circles for the guests comfort. The day we were there it was pouring with rain all day and we spent most of the day in the lobby. Sounds boring bit it wasn't...it was great. They had checker games, jigsaw puzzles, and computer games all going at the same time as well as a large fire in the fireplace. Many people were just catching up on their reading or talking in groups while being served coffee and if you happened to look up at the right time you might well have seen whales breaching in the bay.
Downstairs they also have ping pong and billiards.

If there is one thing to complain about it is the rooms. They are small and a bit dingy but on the other hand they are very clean, the beds are very comfortable and you can open the windows wide. They are the old type of window where you have to lift them up.

I enjoyed every minute of it while staying here despite the weather and I would definitely go back again.

I have mixed feelings about Hotel Tadoussac. I loved the structure and history and location. I loved that we saw a whale from our room right after we arrived. I didn't mind that the room was a little tired, because the character of the hotel overall was just the type of place we like to stay on vacations. My staff interactions left something to be desired though. I had long waits for staff members who were on the phone, on both my visits to the front desk. The prices for the hotel meals were surprisingly expensive (no problem, we just went elsewhere). But most disappointing was when I asked if we could check out at noon instead of 11 on our Wednesday departure date (because of a tour we were taking from 7:30-11am), and was told no -- automatically. On the rare times I've had to ask this of a hotel, at least they have appeared to check their database to see if it might be possible -- I'd have appreciated even the semblance of an attempt to help us! We left with the feeling that Hotel Tadoussac has gotten a little too comfortable being the only game (of its type) in town. A little more competition would be a good thing!

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Tadoussac. The staff was very helpful (and nice about reviewing my translation - thank goodness I remembered some things from French class - for our whale tour confirmation) and spoke English quite well. The location of the hotel was wonderful and so very peaceful. The views from our room and from the Adirondack chairs on the hotel’s back lawn provided breathtaking views of the water.
The hotel was older with older decor but was well maintained and very clean. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bath was also a nice size.
The hotel is conveniently located. The Little Indian Church is located right behind and beside the hotel, and the Chauvin Trading Post Museum is right behind the hotel on the opposite side. The boardwalk is right across the street from the street running behind the hotel. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of several restaurants.

Just stayed at this hotel for 4 days during a business trip. The hotel decor and design are definitely 40's, with modern updates such as LCD tv's in the rooms. The staff were quite attentive and spoke English quite well, which was a relief as my high school French was pretty poor to begin with. I only ate breakfast at the buffet, it was $16 and featured the usual eggs/bacon/sausage/hash browns/toast, but had some nice touches like yogurt and fresh fruit.
The views from the hotel across the bay are very nice, and wandering through the village is very quaint. There are many eateries and a few stores within easy walking distance, and again English was pretty passable, I'll do a separate review of the restaurant I ate at.
All in all the hotel and surroundings are highly recommended for a low key laid back kind of visit. I didn't do any whale watching as it was a bit too early in the season for them, so can't comment on that (I was visiting at end of May).

Room Tip: Facing the bay rather than the parking lot.

We really enjoyed the beautiful hotel and the hotel service staff were helpful and very nice. We payed for the meal package which was way overpriced. Our dinner was really pretty bad. We had lamb chops and they had a funny taste. My wife had stomach issues all night. The breakfast buffet was nice with good service. The hotel and our river view room were both fantastic. We took a walk around the point which was beautiful. Really cute area - we enjoyed it very much.

We had travelled with our children to Nova Scotia by car ....a huge long trip from Southern Ontario, and we were hoping to see whales. We saw one....from a distance in St.Margaret's Bay. Then a friend told us of Tadoussac and we have returned twice! We whale watched in a zodiac boat and on the large ship as well and saw dozens of whales. We could even hear whales spouting when we had our window open in our room in Hotel Tadoussac! This hotel is like taking a trip back in time....antiques, no air conditioning, walk up rooms that have art and photographs decorating the huge main lobby.. This is such a quaint, red roofed inn! There was no air conditioning but it is not necessary! There are always fresh salty breezes from the water. The food here is fabulous and it is on the American plan. The prices are good considering the quality of the food. I speak French but my husband, son and our friends do not. You can get by with no French but the staff appreciates those who try to communicate in French. There is a patio with more casual dining....Poutine delicieuse!!! They also had lots of local artisan beers, The town is wonderful and filled with quaint shops. The shop keepers are friendly but most do not speak English. The church here is so very old and one of the first settlements. There is a tour of it, and you can read a guide book which is in French and English. This is one of our favourite places in the world!

Room Tip: There is only one room with a balcony..It is a small room with one double bed but the balcony is so...
