“Amazing experience!”
Reviewed January 7, 2012

I went with a friend who was visiting Québec for the first time and we were both really impressed! We had the Table d'Hôte for 49$ (4 course meal) and we chose Canard à l'orange for two. The waiter came to our table to show and cut the whole duck in pieces to them "flambé", very impressive! Very good.
The service was also excellent, we never waited for anything. This restaurant is an institution and I know why. I recommend it to everyone!

“Fell far short of expectations - would never return”
Reviewed January 5, 2012

Wow. This was by far, the worst dining experience I've ever had. Mostly because of the condescending way we were treated. We stopped in at lunch to check out the restaurant and try some soup, thinking that we'd go back for dinner if we liked it. We knew it was expensive but wanted a nice dinner out. When we walked in and asked if the lobster bisque was on the menu (because we didn't see it outside) they seemed confused and said "you just want soup?". We said yes, we just wanted to try and heard the soup was great. There was some more confusion, and asking of questions to other staff before they said, okay, come on in. They brought us menus, which we looked at, still thinking about dinner. When the waiter came he said, "so, just soup. all you want is the lobster bisque" - it was very condescending, he had not even offered us a drink at this point. He told us again, it was just an appetizer size and we said fine, we just wanted to taste it as we'd heard it was good. We were prepared to pay the $16 per bowl. It really seemed to cause a stir that all we were ordering was the bisque.

Anyway, when the bisque finally did come the bowls were very hot, the soup however - was not. It certainly wasn't anything special but it was fine, there was lots of lobster in it. A different waiter brought us our food and he seemed nice, offered us fresh pepper but after that no one came to check if we were enjoying it or if it was okay. The original waiter came back and asked if it was good and proceeded to clear the table practically over my shoulder.

The real shocker was the bill which showed we had ordered 3 bowls of soup totally $55. We called the waiter over and said it was a mistake as we only ordered 2 and he said that the appetizer size wouldn't have been big enough so they added some more to our soup. We protested, a manager was sent over and they fixed the bill, very matter of fact - I'm sure to get us out of there as fast as possible. All in all, we really felt that because we were just there for soup that they did not have time for us. Which is very unfortunate as we were hoping to go back for dinner.

The best service we got was from the coat check lady who asked how our meal was and when we said, terrible, the service was awful, she was the one that apologized!!

Reviewed December 27, 2011

We went for a christmas dinner with my familly and we had the chance to dine in a little private room on the second floor. The ambiance was very great, the food sublime and the service very gentle and professional. I reccomend this place to everyone visiting the vieux-québec!
