I stayed at a B and B around the corner from Le Cafe Krieghoff and enjoyed a pleasant dinner on the patio. I had the salmon, roasted vegetables, and rice pilaf and everything was nicely prepared. The service was friendly and it was fun people watching. It seems like a real neighborhood place where francophone families eat, rather than one of the many tourist traps found in and around the old city. The food is pretty traditional and basic but nicely done. I would recommend this as a cozy, local place for an intimate dinner.

I ate here while visiting friends in Quebec. We had such a good time! The coffee is delicious. I had a lengthened espresso and the quiche, followed by some sugar pie. The food and service definitely met our expectations, and the ambiance was intimate, even though the place was hardly empty. It's a definite favourite with the locals, which says a lot. If I lived in the area, you would find me there often.

My husband and I were staying nearby and looking for a reasonable place to eat. We stopped in a Le Cafe K. and had a light dinner of soup and salads. The soup was a traditional, but uninspired version of onion soup and the salads, though fresh, were equally unimaginative. DInner rolls were a joke. The glass of wine I ordered was meager and almost undrinkable. For Boston natives, we found the prices rather high - 1 soup, 2 salads and 1 glass of wine was approximately $45, without a tip.Had the quality been better, this price point would have been acceptable.

As an anglophone that visits Quebec City regularly and lovingly for French Immersion ... Cafe Kreighoff is the heart of the course..... the pause cafe every day at Cafe Kreighoff is the ultimate experience of immersion..... les 'bols' de cafe au lait..... but more importantly being immersed in the conversations at the tables nearby .... the food is authentic .... the ambience unparalled .... it should be Rx'd for any visit to Quebec City !!!

Off of Gande-Allée, you have rue Cartier and on rue Cartier, you have Café Krieghoff. You could almost see yourself in a little place in Paris. Everyone smiles to everyone, read newspapers, the waiters are friendly, little corners with quaint tables, the smell of rich espressos, capucinos and lattés. And it all culminates in a plate of Pain Français (French Toasts) or slowly melt your taste buds in front of Oeufs Bénédictine...with smoked salmon.
Then go for a walk in the area to discover how to enjoy your day!
