“Best meal of my life!”
Reviewed May 17, 2011

Amazing, excellent, superb, not to be missed...These all describe the experience you will have if you decide to drive into the country and splurge! Seriously, the best and most memorable meal of my life. My husband and I went here on a Saturday evening during our weekend getaway to Quebec. We drove 25 minutes outside of the city through a residential but rural neighborhood. We passed a man in a horse drawn carriage along the road. We decided on the 14 course meal (if you have food allergies, know they care about that - it's the first time I've ever had the wait staff ask if there are any allergies they should be aware of!) The first course was a foie gras cookie that came on the menu - a glass cube with the three options (8, 14, or 20 course options). Every course is artful. Our table "smoked" at several times (dry ice effects - kind of amazing). The first course was salmon, which is the one food I've always hated, and it actually made me want seconds. Lots of molecular gastronomy effects. Perfectly paced - 3 1/2 hours for 14 courses, so plan on spending the evening there. For our last course, they moved us into the lounge - leather chairs, dim lighting, art - for our course of truffles and cookies that had to be paired with coffee. Perfect. If you want to splurge (almost $400 for two people, including tip - only one of us did the wine pairing with the meal, no alcohol for the driver, two cups of coffee) and have an amazing experience, make a reservation and go here. You won't regret it.

“Big city dining in Quebec countryside-Above and beyond expectations”
Reviewed August 18, 2010

While travelling to Quebec City on holiday my wife and I decided to splurge after surviving zip lining at St. Anne Canyon. We came across La Taniere through tripadvisor.com and from the 3 prior reviews we decided to take the risk as we knew it could get quite expensive. The restaurant is basically located in the country outside of Quebec City. When we initially pulled up to the restaurant I was a little skeptical because it appeared to be a ranch farm house. As soon as we walked up to the entrance we realized we were in the right place and we began our culinary adventure. We ordered the 14 course “sensation” menu with wine pairing. This was world class dining without the pretentiousness and attitude you might find at other high-end establishments. Our server, who spoke both English and French, was extraordinarily educated about all of the cuisine and gave us excellent tips on how to enjoy the food. The portions for this eccentric menu were satisfying and hearty. Many of the dishes offered locally grown produce which was comforting considering you’re in the backcountry of Quebec City. The casual atmosphere was also a plus (no coat gentlemen) even though most people seemed to be celebrating a special occasion and were nicely dressed. Also, after trying to find something similar in Chicago we realized that the price was actually a great value for this caliber of fine dining. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely go back next time we’re in Quebec City.
