We both had french onion soup which was slightly too salty for us although that did not prevent us from emptying our bowls, so overall very good. The great surprise of this place is their ribs. Good size portion of falling off the bone, tender, juicy ribs with a fantastic BBQ sauce. House wine was acceptable and at a quite reasonable price. Waitstaff was absolutely magnificent. Cafe de la Paix is just around the corner from Aux Anciens Canadiens and is a delightful intimate little venue. We strongly recommend this littel Cafe for a very casual but delicious break from Quebec's haute cuisine.

We had a terrific meal here. Good food, unhurried service, great wine. Felt like we were in Normandy.

We opted for a more quite and away from the crowd NYE dinner before heading out to the outdoor party on Grande Allee. It was perfect. It's small and very romantic. We saw couples and families with older kids dining, so it seems to suit all.
There was a great "fixed" menu that was more than enough filling and delicious. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Definitely make reservation.

Hiding down a side street off la rue St-Louis, within walking distance of the Chateau Frontenac, the Cafe de la Paix is a longstanding favourite among natives and tourists alike. The food is always good. We had a lobster entree / terrine, followed by an entrecôte for two. The apple-sugar pie for dessert was delicious. Service was attentive. This restaurant is one of the best examples of old-world charm, with wood-panelling, well-set tables and quiet conversation. During tourist season, best to reserve, especially on weekends.

I would not recommend this restaurant. The food quality was below average, the service extremely poor and slow and unless you have reservations you will be placed upstairs in unmemorable rooms.
