My family really enjoyed this hotel. The location was perfect for Old Quebec. Do make sure to reserve a parking space when booking. The staff were very nice and helpful and the room was very clean. It was really nice to take a break from the hot day in our comfy room. Oh, and how could I forget the 24 hour espresso machine.

My wife and I had a great stay at Hotel Champlain. Everything was within easy walking distance as the hotel is very centrally located to all the tourist spots. Within a couple minutes were were in the lower town, citadel, grande-allee,plains of abraham and other spots. Breakfast is quite nice (don't forget to check in the drawer for more food items) and the (free) coffee drinks really are good, especially when the weather is unseasonably cold and rainy.

Our room on the fifth floor was really spacious and the bathroom was quite large with the crazy fish sink. We didn't have any problem with street noise, but we were on an alley (no view). My only complaint is that that they could stand to upgrade the mattresses. They weren't bad, but other hotels have upped the standard. I definitely recommend staying here. It was a really great value.

Bonjour,

I want to thank you for sharing your experience at the Champlain hotel.

I am really glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. As you mentioned, our hotel is a nice place to stay and be able to visit the city by walk. The attractions, boutiques and restaurants are at less than five minutes of walk.

We strive to give the best experience as we can. It is important for us to give quality, comfort, cleanliness and service. Our staff team is always pleased to welcome guests and assist them at any moment. For your comfort, we provide free wireless Internet, free local calls, free access to a cappuccino/espresso machine and free breakfast.

As you mentioned, the standard rooms are really nice when you want only a place to stay and walk to visit the city. It is important to remember that the standard rooms do not have any view.

I am sorry that you did not like the mattress. Presently we are making some change in the mattress and we are working steps by steps. Your comfort is important for us, for that reason, we still have some pillow top bed that we have added on the old mattress.

Again, I want to thank you for your great review; we are looking forward to welcome you back.

Best regards,
Alexander

Overall, good hotel. Washroom is new and clean, location is perfect. For the price, I expect the carpet in the room to be cleaner, therefore it needs major washing or renewal. Breakfast and wifi is a bonus.

A little concern about leaving the car keys at the reception. They don't verify your room key when collecting the car key, anybody could go in and ask for car key for parking #1. My advise is not to leave the keys at the front desk.

Bonjour,

I want to thank you for sharing your experience at the Champlain hotel.

I was surprised to read what happened with the car keys. It is important to know that we identify the car keys with the room number and not with the parking lot. Normally, our front desk clerks always ask the room number and not the parking’s one. Like that, when someone asks for a specific parking lot and we ask him his room number, there are 1122 combinations possible, then it is really hard (almost impossible) to match the parking number and the room number. It is a kind of double security system. However, we talked with them to make sure that they always ask the room number. It may arrive that when people stay with us for a few nights, the front desk clerks know the guest’s name, room number and parking lot; then they will not necessarily ask for the room number in that specific situation.

The other important point to consider is that we are obligated to keep the car keys at the front desk. The fire department of Quebec City requires that the keys are accessible to move the cars in case of any emergencies. If an inspector pass at the hotel and see that we do not have all the keys, they won’t allow us to let the people park at the hotel anymore. It is why we have to follow that city law. If a person does not want to give his car keys, we are in the obligation to ask him to park with the valet service or at a municipal parking. You can also be sure that when there is no people at the front desk, the car keys are locked and in safety. Also, parking gate is closed at 11pm or when all cars are securely parked. We really are sorry you had a bad impression on our security system for the car keys, as it is also for us a great concern.

I want to thank you for your good comments and we are sorry for the problem caused by the carpet: maintenance has been advised and the carpet has been cleaned.

Best regards,
Alexander.

We picked this hotel after a disaster stay in Ottawa. It is right in the heart of Old Quebec. Limited parking is available on sight so request it when booking. Every attraction inside the walls of the old city are in short walking distance of the hotel.

The staff are friendly and courtious. Rooms are super clean and modern. I can't say enough about this place. It's a bit of trouble to find without a gps, but well worth the effort!
I only wish we had booked for a couple of days. After staying in a dump in Ottawa, we were leary about our next stay and only booked here for one night. When we tried to book extra days in this amazing hotel, we found they were booked solid for the next two weeks.
Ultimate value for the orice. It's not the "Chatteau". It's better, without all the pomp and fuss.

This hotel location is great. Rooms are a good size and the bathrooms are quite spacious. We didn't pay extra for a view and I don't regret it; you are a five minute walk away from the best view in Quebec City - why stay in the room? The room decor is both modern and warm. Breakfast was better than I expected. Plenty of hot water and the water pressure in the shower was great. I would definitely stay here again; it's a great value. My nitpicking negatives are below:
Mattress was not great. Completely rigid in the center and saggy over the rest. There is not really enough light in the bathroom for applying makeup in front of the mirror. Air conditioning unit is really loud when it cycles on.

This hotel was priced very reasonably, compared to others in the area. The service was excellent, and we were told about a local restaurant special. The special was a 5 course meal at a top quality restaurant, and the hotel brought a fine bottle of Hungarian sparkling wine to our room for when we returned from the meal as part of it. This special was $85 for two people. I had the Gravlax trout appetizer and duck breast on pasta, with a sparkling wine opener, a granite to cleanse the palate, lots of French bread, and creme broulee. Oh, and the lobby coffee machine makes very good cafe lattes.

Booked on hotels.ca for $139 a night (deal!). Found the first room we were given had a SLIGHTLY older mattress that did not provide my wife the 100% comfort she wanted. Asked the desk staff. Thy said they were switching out all older mattresses and could they give us a new room with a new mattress? Sure we said! They came and got our things for us, moved everything, and brought us to an even larger room than the one we had before but also with a comfy new mattress! Even without the free upgrade, he room was beautiful and spacious in the first place. Cherry on top? This hotel is smack dab in the middle of everything great in VIEUX quebec, and the free breakfast varies every day with actual real food and many options! I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Oh yeah, and the staff made excellent restaurant suggestions, held our bags for us for hours on the last day and were always helpful in all ways.
