The beauty of the architecture & skating at Place Youville. There are all the little shops to visit and get the feel of the city.

Definitly have to come back, It was too cold to walk around but we drove around and the christmas lights were gorgeous and just the historical sites were gorgeous on their own ! We could not visit much as it was New Year's day and everything was closed but definitly coming back when it's warmer weather.

There is something romantic about an old world town that brings you back to the simple pleasures we have long forgotten to enjoy. The cobblestones, the quaint stores that sell everything from jewelry to Alaskan wear, the many restaurants with more variety of venues than any major city in the US. The stores are small, the restaurants are also small which makes for cozy inviting dinners. The hotels are historical and blend the modern with the old. They will cater to your every whim. Staying at a B&B is usually my preference but were harder to find on this trip so I did end up staying at a small hotel right in the center of the town which was perfect for sightseeing and had access to everything else.It is a walking city so you will not be disappointed with the variety of activities you can walk to or even use the town buses which cost $1 and stay within Quebec city for your convenience. I will warn you to bring more money than you think you will need as the prices are double for what we pay in the US. Clothing is double the price, food has two taxes and it was hard to find a meal for two with no drinks for under $50.00 for even lunch. Sticker shock!
Let's chat about the French Canadian's attitude towards Americans. In general, most places were very polite, however, we did find shopkeepers and some waitstaff who viewed and treat Americans with an air of complete indifference, they want our money but really don't want us in their country. On both the walking tour and the carriage tour we took, both guides made a point of stating that when America decided to attack Quebec back in the 1800's they were promptly defeated. This was stated with great pride. Beyond the indifference of some, it is still quite a lovely city to visit with breathtaking views of the St.Lawrence river and beautiful views of upper and lower Old Quebec. I would love to go back in the spring when everything goes into bloom, they tell me that is the "special" time of Old Quebec.

The Quebecois know what is good in life - food, art, music, canoeing like a madman across an ice-choked and quick flowing river... Go there and give yourself up to their knowhow. Do it now!
