“Amazing Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

Maison La Chapeliere is a wonderfully restored home with modern appliances. The best part of our stay was Claude. He was a wonderful host and made you feel that you are part of his family. He served gourmet breakfasts and recommended activities. He had the ability to relate incredibly well with our teens as well as grandparents.

The bedrooms provided privacy and separate baths for our extended family. This home exemplifies that the kitchen is the heart of the home. He remodeled to keep the character of the home. It was fun having the grill and hot tub on the rooftop. He saw to every detail a traveler could wish for.

A stay at Maison La Chapelier is the perfect enhancement to the experience that is Quebec City. Located in a residential neighborhood along the St. Lawrence, this B & B is a meticulously restored 18th century hat shop with easy walking access to the lower city and the river walking path. We've been coming here for several years and it feels like home every time. Host Claude Sanschagrin is a beautiful soul and a wonderful cook and local authority who knows and loves his city, as you will after staying here. Oh, by the way there's a hot tub on the roof!

Enjoyed this B&B very much with 5 other family members. The breakfast was a new treat every morning. The location was excellent - walking distance from Old Town, Plains of Abraham, and tourist sites, also very close to a recreational trail. The owner provided helpful suggestions. Lovely decor.

How can one say that something is superb without it sounding trite these days? But that's the plain truth, the Maison la Chapeliere is superb, and all of the credit goes to Claude Sanschagrin - who certainly lives up to his name! He took an old hat shop, and turned it into the nicest B&B that I've stayed in - and that's quite a few. The Maison la Chapeliere is located under the Citadel, equidistant between the stairs up to the Plains of Abraham, and the shops of the old city beneath the wall with it's funicular to the top. Either way, you can walk to everything in Quebec City, sightsee, bring back the groceries, and recount the day over the meal you prepared with your friends. There were six of us, and we fit nicely into the lovely old hat shop. There's also a rooftop terrace, looking out over the St Lawrence, for that goodnight glass of wine under the stars. Then for the best part, Claude comes jauntily up the stairs the next morning with a bag of groceries, and proceeds to amaze us with the elegant breakfast he prepares. For a peek at his repertoire, go to: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/24513998@N07/sets/72157634118177068/>. He is a most gracious and charming host. Thank you, Claude.

We (2 couples) stayed at the Maison La Chapeliere for 4 days and it was a wonderful experience! The house is very lovely renovated and with a great sense for the details. I felt as if I travelled back in time. The rooms were wonderfully decorated, clean, the beds comfortable. Claude, the owner, was a wonderful host. He surprised us every day with an excellent breakfast. He was super nice and treated us like friends. He was very helpful and extremly welcoming. It was so inspiring to see how he transformed an old, dark house into this wonderful gem!!!

I would stay at Maison La Chapeliere anytime again and recomend it to anybody!
Thanks again, Claude!

I went to this place for a night with friends and everything was top-notch. The rooms were super clean and the beds very comfortable. What about the location! It is at walking distance of many restaurants, the Abraham's field, many handcraft boutiques and interesting sites! The breakfast was incredibly good! You'll difficultly find something better in a restaurant and the host were very nice!

I stayed 1 night at La chapelière to visite Quebec city and also to see the redbull chrashed ice and this experience was amazing. The location of the B&B is parfect, its near the bridge and from there you can go on a journey by foot because it's near a lot of famous site of quebec. Also, the owners of the place are very kind and they do some amazingly good breakfast! The B&B is so well decorated, it really make you feel like your are living in 1800 but qith a confort you'll never forget. I really enjoyed my stay and I recommend La Chapelière to everybody!

Room Tip: All their room are extraordinary confortable and well decorated, they are all good choices.
