Sister and I travelled to Quebec City for a girl's weekend and stayed at this lovely hotel. We booked a large family suite and the room was very large. We loved everything about this hotel and breakfast being delivered in the morning was great. We never had to worry about getting out early to make sure we made breakfast before it closed down and loved to be able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast in our rooms. I would wholeheartedly both recommend and stay at this hotel again. Loved everything about this trip - the hotel and the charm of Quebec City.

We had stayed one night at another hotel which was quite this disappointment and based on a moon book guide review choose to stay at this hotel. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating - they helped us make a reservation for a bike trip on a nearby island and provided insight into good restaurants in the area, all with some friendly humor. The rooms were delightful - wonderfully appointed and very comfortable with nice attention to detail. The location could not have been better. And in the morning, they deliver a breakfast of croissants and other baked goods with delicious jams in a basket that they hang on your door knob. I've traveled a lot in my life and there are few hotels I go out of my way to recommend, but this is one of them. Stay here if you can.

This little Hotel is big on service and quiet style. We enjoyed the well furnished room, quiet, and the nice basket for breakfast was a wonderful touch. It is close to the harbour, shopping either in the lower section or around the Chateau Frontenac. There are nice cafe's, bistro's all around the hotel. We would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a low key experience not the usual high rise hotels. We have stayed at the Chateau and the history is great but we will come and stay here the next time we visit Old Quebec. Parking is across the street and they will validate parking stub. We can only say we truly enjoyed our stay.

Quebec is a wonderful city! Much to do, much to see.
We stayed at the Hotel des Coutellier for one week at the end of August in 2009.
For a few dollars more, we booked their "presidential suite." It is the largest room in the hotel, and contains a large spa tub and glassed-in shower. It also has a bit more room containing a sofa, chair and small (cocktail-size) table. This small table is useful when eating the included breakfast. We very much liked the location of this hotel since it was situated a short walk (across the street) from a fresh fruit/vegatable/cheese market which also contained a small indoor/outdoor restaurant. It did necessitate a walk uphill to get to the main part of the old city; but we could also walk to the funiculaire and take the short "cable-car" up the hill. We were also close to rue St.Jean which contains many shops and restaurants while situated in a quieter part of town. A car rental was not necessary. We even took a public bus (exact change only) to a Quebec megamall to satisfy our shopping needs.
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.

I was very impressed with this hotel. What really makes it stand out for me is the all the little touches - large soft towels, beautiful bath robes in the room, complementary breakfast delivered to the room in a basket, free Internet access, and helpful and friendly front desk staff.

The location is very good. It's a 10 min walk up a steep hill to the old walled town, or you can walk 15 mins on the flat and then take the funicular up, or there is a free mini-bus which picks up just next to the hotel. My only slight criticism would be that our room only had one small window, was quite dark and the outlook was across a small side street into other buildings.

I booked this hotel after reading reviews on TripAdvisor and was definitely not disappointed. The Hotel Des Coutelliers was a great find...it's trendy but cozy at the same time and in a fantastic location -> very close to the port, old Quebec and the up and coming area around Rue Charest/Rue Parvis. Some noticeable pros of this hotel:

- for the first time ever, reasonable mini bar prices! We were amazed by this and actually used the mini bar -> $3.50 for a beer, $1.50 for a bag of chips. $3.00 for VOSS water. It was a refreshing change to not have a hotel try to take advantage of the convenience factor.
- there's an ESSO gas station across the street from which you can purchase beer and wine and snacks
- and as others have mentioned, the breakfast is fantastic. The croissants were to die for.

We only tried one of the bars located next to the hotel and it was nice, although they stop serving at midnight. We happened to be in Quebec at a very busy time (during Les Fetes de la nouvelle France), thus all of the restaurants were very busy and we made a mistake of not making reservations.

All in all a great trip. Next time we might try to stay closer to the Grande Allee as there's supposed to be a bit more nightlife in that area.
