“Beautiful Stay!!!”
Reviewed October 2, 2005

I highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone looking for a cozy, clean and romantic stay. The staff is very friendly as are the cats!!
Right in the heart of Old Quebec, this home built in 1850 really sets the mood for what will definetly be a beautiful and romantic getaway from the crazy day to day life that we all lead. Charles will help you out as soon as you arrive and be sure to go to the Vodoo Grill for some of the best steak you will ever taste!!!

My husband and I simply loved Quebec City and no small part of this was due to our stay at Maison du Fort. Mme Roy is a charming hostess and was helpful with all our requests, especially very good driving directions getting back to our home in Connecticut!

We stayed in Room 6, which was large, comfortable and simply beautiful, with a view of the St. Lawrence River from one of our windows facing the Dufferin Terrace. There is an album in the breakfast room that shows the inn in various stages of renovation. Quite an accomplishment and Mme. Roy is quite the decorator. Victorian but not at all frilly or over the top. Just lovely, really, and so clean and fresh. The rooms and hallways are decorated in cat-motif and much of Mme Roy's own needlework. So pretty!

The Chateau Frontenac is very close by and we were within easy walking distance of everything in both the upper and lower sections of the old town, including the funicular that connects the two. Mme Roy gave us good directions to nearby parking where we left our car in complete safety for two days. I would love to stay here again, perhaps during winter carnival, tho'my husband, a lighter sleeper than I, would recommend a room at the back of the house to avoid the sounds of traffic in the night. (Not a lot of traffic, but the narrow streets and all the stone buildings seem to create an echo chamber.)

Mme Roy is a lovely baker and the light breakfast every morning was complete with her freshly homemade muffins, cakes and cookies, good coffee, fresh fruit and juice. The aroma of fresh-baked zucchini bread filled the halls during the first day of our stay!

We happen to be cat lovers and the two resident felines, tho' not at all intrusive, helped make our stay very, very pleasant. I have no hesitation recommending the Maison du Fort to anyone planning to visit Quebec City! It is simply delightful in every way.

My husband and I and another couple stayed at the Maison du Fort for four days and absolutely loved it. The hostess was the sweetest person--so friendly, and helpful with directions and ideas for things do do while in town, but not in the least bit intrusive. The pastries prepared every morning were delicious, and she even let us bring our coffee cups and breakfast outside for a walk up to the park where we could sit and enjoy the nice weather. The rooms were sparkling clean, nicely decorated and the whole inn had an overall comfortable and home-like feel to it that you don't get much anymore, even in a nice b&b. We would definitely stay here again when visiting Quebec City.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Maison du Fort for four nights in July. We had read many great reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not dissapointed, it was exactly what we expected. We stayed in room 5, the room was beautiful, nicely furnished and the bed was extremely comfortable. It was large, and I loved the bathroom sink!

Quebec City was extremely hot while we were there, an unusual heat wave. The hotel doesn't have air conditioning, but they did provide a fan. We slept with it by our bed and that helped.

I can't say enough about the location, so close to everything in the upper city, it was great. You're right on the edge of the Plains of Abraham. We felt that it was just the perfect location, it was quiet, but just minutes away to everything.

The breakfast in the morning was very quaint, nothing too filling, and if you don't like sweets, then you may not be a fan. There were usually different types of pastries, etc. but it would keep us full until lunch time.

Overall, the hotel was great, the people were friendly, the room was very comfortable, and we would stay there again. Great charm and great location.

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay at Maison Du Fort and it was just wonderful! Located in the Upper Town, each night we enjoyed a quiet sleep and each morning a lovely walk two streets down to Quebecs quaint cafes. We stayed in room #5, the blue room. The bed was comfy, the room was welcoming and the bathroom was clean! Marielle and Charles are a joy to talk with and suggested great eateries. We will return again and again and again. There's no need to look anywhere else, the Maison Du Fort is number 1!

My wife and I stayed at Maison du Fort in late July to celebrate her 40th birthday. Mdm Roy and Charles were very friendly and gracious, and our room was immaculate.

Only recommendation, as others have mentioned, is that you get a room in the back of the hotel and on an upper floor. We stayed in Room #1 - on the first floor in the front. Because of the narrow street and stone houses, when a car goes by it can sound like the car is right in the room with you. However, it is only fair to note that Room #1 is priced below the other rooms, so it is only natural that the room is not the best one in the house. Only other complaint is that the bed was a little creaky and the room did not contain much in the way of storage - especially in the tiny bathroom.

Location was perfect, just a short walk from everything in the Upper Town, but not on one of the crowded main drags.

If you are looking to save some money over the higher priced guest-houses and hotels in old QC, then the Maison du Fort is the right one for you. Just don't be tempted to save a few more bucks by staying in Room #1 in the summer.

Good Luck in your Travels -

Spike

We traveled with another couple to Quebec City and stayed at the Maison du Fort for 3 nights, August 5 - 7, the rooms are clean and very comfortable. Marielle Roy is delightful, pleasant and charming, sbe was very helpful recommending restaurants, sights, tours. Marielle made our stay at her hotel feel like we were home. Would recommend this hotel for the location, it is walking distance to downtown, the citadel and other sights but especially the proprietor, Marielle.
