“A perfect choice for our recent visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2014

The absolute best in every respect! It's a small boutique hotel that's a close walk to the center of the Old Town, to restaurants, sights and shopping. The hostess, Marielle Roy, is most gracious and helpful.

Room Tip: Check their website. It has good detail on every room.

My husband and I were in Quebec city for my husbands birthday. The hotel room was lovely and romantic. We could have easily spent all of our time in the room. The view was spectacular,we could see the Chateau Frontenac and the St.Lawrence.The breakfast is great, just enough to get you started on your day of sightseeing. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Room number ten is extra large with a view from four large windows

Listening to horses clip clopping along the narrow streets through open windows while tucked into cozy beds brings visions of another era. At Maison du Fort, Mme. Roy has created her own tiny bit of paradise over the past twenty years which she shares with her visitors. She is the perfect host, always available but never intrusive, sharing her wealth of knowledge in one of the worlds most beautiful cities. From the initial phone contact with her charming, helpful brother to her warm farewell the four of us felt blessed. Our rooms were immaculate, comfortable and beautifully furnished. She has maintained the distinct hundred year old character of the home with its intricate mouldings while providing up to date services. A petite breakfast was served on top of her grand piano. We took our doily lined tray with coffee, tea, orange juice, yoghurt and baked goods to our rooms then strolled a couple of short blocks down to the promenade with a coffee later. From here we could easily get to restaurants, shops, attractions, the Plains of Abraham and the lower, old town on foot. Our car was left at a nearby, safe, underground garage. It was perfect.

Room Tip: Room 8 is large, bright and beautiful facing the street with a narrow view of the river. Next to it...

I had a short and delightful stay at the inn. My room was small but very comfortable, clean and functional. The Inn is close to many of the attractions within the Old City , and located on a quiet street, so it's perfect to reach out to wherever one wants to go on foot.

I was lucky to have befriended the owner of the Inn Marielle who is very well informed about local attractions. You can ask her anything and she seems to point you to the right direction. I discovered she loves cats. If you pay close attention to the sigh of the inn, you will notice a smiling friendly cat! I hope next time I stay there, Marielle will have found her a new cat friend.

Says it all in the title really, if you're looking for somewhere to stay within the Old City that is reasonably priced, clean, comfortable, and convenient you can't do better than the Maison du Fort.

My daughters and I shared two rooms, both with comfortable double beds, one on the main floor and one on the second floor, and found both rooms to be very attractive and pleasant. Each room had a modestly sized, very clean and well maintained private 3 piece bathroom.

Check-in was fast and efficient, and Madame was extremely helpful in directing us to local places and activities of interest. We were even able to take advantage of one of the coupons she gave us and saved some money on one of our planned activities.

A perfect stay with only one disappointment - the advertised resident cats were not to be found!

Maison Du Fort, on Rue St. Genevieve, should be your choice for a stay in Quebec at any season. Marielle is very kind, helpful and makes excellent suggestions when you let her know what you want to do. I liked the way she arranged breakfast: serve yourself coffee/tea/juice, a selection of baked goods, and you can go on your way. A last minute cancellation brought me here during the last days of Fete de La Nouvelle France (the best time to visit) to experience exactly the vacation I had in mind: quiet, lots of exercise and connecting with Canadian history. Room 8 looks small in the picture but very agreeable with 2 large windows, bed was so comfy, and a quiet street at night. And no TV, just what I wanted most. Step out of the front door, look right: the Dufferin terrace a few steps away, mighty St. Lawrence, and Levis are your view. Very near are the Citadelle, the best shopping, Notre Dame, the Grand Allee-you must try dining there and at the Marche. I wouldn't have gone to Levis if Marielle hadn't suggested it: she will ease any hesitations, and so I had the best experience there the day before leaving. A quick ferry, up the grey stairs, onto Begin and found an exquisite Savonniere-bought lots of beautiful soaps locally made, even a maple one!
I heartily recommend Maison Du Fort.
Mary Veronica M.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny.

My husband and I were so lucky to find the Maison du Fort on a quiet residential street two blocks from the Frontenac, just up from the delightful river view boardwalk through a small park in the center of the old town and less than a block from the amazing green space that is the Citadel and the Plains of Abraham. We were there for three nights in early August. The first night was the culmination of the annual New France Festival. About the festival, all I can say is this city knows how to celebrate and share their heritage! We thoroughly enjoyed mingling with visitors from all over the world and the Quebecois both in and out of costume. When we walked back to our street, however, the party disappeared and tranquility reigned.

The Inn is beautifully restored and well taken care of. Our Room, Number 9, was small and perfect. Impeccably clean with what looks like a brand new bathroom and with a deep set window that we were fascinated with: interior shutters and a moveable double French window that anyone from the colder parts of the US would be envious of. The bed was extremely comfortable and the sheets and towels and shower curtain were of the highest quality. I notice these things because I am an innkeeper too. Two of the walls in our room were the original stone exterior walls. Very nice.

Mrs. Roy, our innkeeper, is a lovely lady who makes sure you are all set to enjoy your stay and is always available if you need her. Each morning, she sets out a hand made continental breakfast with coffee, orange juice, and a variety of pastries different every day. There is a stack of trays in the breakfast room so every morning one of us would descend from our aerie and bring breakfast back to bed. Sigh.

We absolutely recommend Maison du Fort!
