I can't imagine a better place to stay in Quebec. Lovely hotel and pretty, comfortable room in a fabulous location! We never moved our car as we walked everywhere, even to all the great restaurants we wanted to try. Marielle (and her brother) was most helpful. Highly recommended for any length of stay in Quebec!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maison du Fort. Marielle was a great hostess who provided great advice on what to see in Quebec City. She also helped me retrieve a wallet that I left in a taxi to the airport. Coffee, juice, and baked goods were available each morning, and the room was impeccably clean. This hotel was in Old Quebec and was close to everything, including evening fireworks over the river. All in all, my wife and I had a wonderful experience.

My wife and I spent two nights in this very lovely, small, older hotel. The conveniently-located building has been beautifully restored and furnished, so that guests can enjoy the 19th c. architecture with modern comforts. Our room was very nice with a comfortable bed. Our hostess was warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and capable, as well as baking great breads and muffins for breakfast. We would gladly stay there again.

Charming little (11 rooms) hotel with some room for improvement. My wife and I stayed here after coming from Montreal, and found it to be very nice with a few things that were slightly annoying.

Hotel – only 11 rooms on three floors with no elevator. Nice lounge where coffee and breakfast is available.

Location – excellent location - close to the Citadel, Château Frontenac, and many great restaurants. Five minute walk to the funiculaire (avoiding the 201 steps) which takes you down to the lower town. Very quiet at night.

Room – impeccably clean and nicely decorated. Small, but sufficient. Every room is different. We stayed in room 9, which had only one night table on side of the bed and one other small table, which provided very little space to place things on. The air conditioner was placed in the wall directly next to the head of the bed, with cool air blowing directly on us while in bed.
The bathroom had a pedestal sink with virtually no space for any toiletries. We had to remove the towels from a shelf that was over the toilet to enable us to have a place to put our bathroom items.

Breakfast – Nice assortment of cakes, muffins, macaroons. Orange juice and coffee; however, no half and half provided – only 2% milk. When I asked about cream for the coffee, I was told there was not enough demand for that. Didn't seem like too much to expect, considering the price that you pay for the room. Also had a bowl of about 60 packets of regular sugar, but only about 6 sweet and low. In either case, did not seem to accommodating. Breakfast was self serve.

Service – Marielle, the proprietor, was very pleasant and helpful. She marked a few different maps for us, showing how to get to places that we wanted to see. Spoke English and French.

Parking – our biggest complaint. When we called to reserve the room, we where told that there was a parking lot ($22.00 per day) that was a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We assumed that the lot was an above-ground municipal type lot with parking spaces always available. Instead, it turned out to be an underground lot that was very warm and stuffy, with only about 50 spots. Upon returning from a day of sightseeing, we entered the lot to find no spots available. When we told the proprietor, she informed us of another lot that was a few blocks farther from the hotel. Fortunately, when we passed through our lot for the third time, we found one spot.

Other considerations – available pay phone in the lobby, but no phone at all in the rooms, which would have been convenient when making restaurant reservations. While there was free internet wireless access, was of no use to us. Many of the other hotels in which we have stayed had a desktop computer with free access located in a lounge. Again, not a big deal, but would have added to our convenience.

Would recommend this hotel if parking is not a concern. We would look for another hotel with parking next time.

We had a lovely stay at Maison du Fort in August 2013. We spent three days in Quebec City during a longer trip to the Belle Province, and after a great apartment rental in Montreal before we arrived in Quebec, we worried the Maison du Fort might be a let down. It wasn't! We stayed in Room 10, which was enormous, had spectacular views of the Chateau Frontenac and neighboring rooftops, and special touches like exposed stone and brick walls and four big windows. We rarely seek to spend time indoors at our hotel when visiting a new city, but we actually set aside one morning just to lounge around the room! Marielle is a thoughtful and friendly host who clearly loves her job, and gave us many good tips. The location of the inn couldn't be better - we could walk to everything both inside and beyond the old city walls, including St. Roch for an unforgettable dinner at L'affaire Est Ketchup (we recommend this creative young restaurant very highly - make a reservation! It was one of the best of our trip).

One of the only things on our wish list that went unfulfilled: we wish there had been a garden, courtyard or larger sitting room at the Maison, where we could have enjoyed our coffee and chatted with other guests. That's a small thing, though, and of course there are architectural limitations to a house from 1851!

We hope to come back soon and stay here again, maybe during Winter Carnival next February. Enthusiastically recommended!

Room Tip: Room 10 was amazing, and Room 9 next door, which was a bit smaller, also looked to be one of the nic...

We enjoyed three days at the Maison du Fort in August 2013. We found it the perfect place to stay, right in the heart of the Old City, just a short walk away from the many attractions Quebec City has to offer.
Our room was splendid, large, very comfortable, tastefully furnished and decorated and spotlessly clean. We slept soundly at night with no noise from the road outside and an almost soundless A/C, we could have stayed much longer!
Marielle was very welcoming and a mine of information regarding places to visit, current events and places to eat. We had a memorable stay and will look back on this trip for a long time to come. When we visit Quebec City again we will definitely stay with Marielle at the Maison du Fort, it ticks all the boxes for us.

As seasoned travelers there are a few, a very few places that I wish I could stay on longer. Maison du Fort was that place. From our late arrival on Thursday evening to our very early departure on Tuesday morning, Marielle was the perfect host. From our welcome at the door in the pouring rain to our departure kiss on the cheek this morning with coffee and a pastry VERY early, she made her hotel our home away from home. The room #6 was HUGE and very bright and airy. There are double windows that keep out any noise but there really isn't any as the hotel is one block off the tourist area and only the guests of the few hotels on this street even walk back here. I was a bit chilly being a Floridian, so Marielle brought a space heater up to my room. We asked for a dinner recommendation one night and she nailed it spot on. She was attentive but not intrusive. She was efficient but not rude. The location is tremendous as it is RIGHT behind the Chateau Frontenac with a lovely park on the corner. The hotel was always at the cleanest level. Both the rooms and the common areas. I don't usually write a review and I don't usually gush but this hotel has earned it's high rating on TripAdvisor. No tricks here just a great location, pleasant hostess, nice rooms and good value for Quebec City. Thank-you. We hope to return again soon!
